I know. (I have family members in the Marines.) The whole fetishization of the military gives me heartburn.
(Though, it is a sad fact that many in the military are there as a stop gap measure to fix a lack of employment. Thus not giving us the best and brightest in the service of our country.)

I’ve been reading comments on some of the reports on this in other media. The apologists’ line seems to be, “Get over it. They were just trolling you liberals.” So this version of Trump’s “locker room talk” excuse means that it’s okay for our own military members to alienate half of the population they’re sworn to defend. That scares the crap out of me. What’s more, I see this as the right probing the limits of what’s acceptable, just as the administration has been doing in other ways (ignoring ethics reviews for cabinet, one of many examples). We cannot let these things slide.

Kleptocracy it’s called sometimes, run by kleptocrats that use their power to exploit the people and natural resources of their own territory in order to extend their personal wealth and political power. Typically this system involves the embezzlement of state funds at the expense of the wider population, sometimes without even the pretense of honest service.
Also known as a ‘Plunder Economy’ where the whole economy of the state is based on robbery, looting and plundering the conquered territories. Such states are either in continuous warfare with their neighbors or they simply milk up their subjects as long as they have any taxable assets.
