Discussion: Mike Rogers: There's 'Confusion' On Trump Transition, Christie Allies Ousted

Most of the posters here & a majority of people who voted actually tried to stop this. Perhaps use a smaller brush.

I don’t see much defeat. People are upset, and starting to think about how to deal with a problem few of us expected to have.

I find gallows-humor to be quite useful and I don’t believe it’s an American invention. Did you never see it elsewhere?

I think there is some confusion going on about a chain of command coming out of New York. Hopefully they’ll get that settled pretty soon. I think they’re going to need to do it because as this clock ticks, all of these decisions become more important and you have to make them sooner, with a little more authority and a little more forward thinking to make sure that they don’t bump into anything in the future. I think they’re going to get there and I’m an optimist about that. . . .

(There are) a lot of folks who don’t have any experience . . .

But that’s what the problem is. There’s a little bit of a vacuum in clear chains of command. That will get fixed. I think this is just growing pains,

I put that through Google Translate, and got this:

“Growing pains”. Maybe we can git wikileaks to hack the transition team emails.

If a hypothetical incoming Democratic administration was suffering from this amount of confusion,

  1. Republicans would use a lot stronger language to describe the situation than “growing pains”
  2. You WOULD NOT see Republicans saying to the new administration “when you succeed we all succeed”

25th Amendment

Section 1. In case of the removal of the President from office or of his death or resignation, the Vice President shall become President.

Section 2. Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress.

Section 3. Whenever the President transmits to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives his written declaration that he is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, and until he transmits to them a written declaration to the contrary, such powers and duties shall be discharged by the Vice President as Acting President.

Section 4. Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.

Thereafter, when the President transmits to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives his written declaration that no inability exists, he shall resume the powers and duties of his office unless the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive department or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit within four days to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office. Thereupon Congress shall decide the issue, assembling within forty-eight hours for that purpose if not in session. If the Congress, within twenty-one days after receipt of the latter written declaration, or, if Congress is not in session, within twenty-one days after Congress is required to assemble, determines by two-thirds vote of both Houses that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall continue to discharge the same as Acting President; otherwise, the President shall resume the powers and duties of his office.

This is going to get a lot of reading in the next few days/weeks.

In a month or two we will hear about tearful midnight phone calls from Trump to Christie: “Chrissie-boy, I am so sorry I let you down, please come and save me, you’r the only friend i’ve left…”

A caveman would think of it as a cave- with windows. He wouldn’t even consider the possibility that it moves on it’s own. Hopefully some evil won’t get done because they won’t know it’s possible.

Rogers is being polite, keeping his options open for when the Apprentices crash and burn and Trump needs grown-ups. Before this, he was a front-runner for CIA head. The ones they’re naming now are laughable.

To me, it looks like the path to the presidency is wide open for Speaker Ryan… just saying …

I believe that Rump will be impeached. By the Republicans.

How can I say this? Because when Rump began this odyssey, he was using the GOP for his purposes. He probably never dreamed he’d get this far but there you have it. Right now, the tables are turned. The GOP is using HIM. When Ryan begins implementing his onslaught of horrible legislation, no doubt he’ll begin to point a finger at POTUS who signed the bill in the first place. All the GOP establishment needs is any Rethug with a pen and a pulse to sign the damn legislation.

After that, Rump is of no use to them. As a matter of fact, establishment GOP is probably getting Pence up to speed as much as possible because I have a feeling this whole clandestine bromance Rump has with Russia is making them very nervous.

The flip side of that, which is what we should be worried about, is some good won’t get done because they won’t know its possible.

Caveman thinks its a cave with windows? Means he will never be able to drive someone to the hospital in an emergency. Or make a weekly run to the grocery store to prevent starvation. Or get the hell out of dodge because a hurricane is barreling down.

Understood, and I agree.
I think we are strictly in reduce-the-blast-radius mode.

You think anybody told these twits the way to the bathroom yet?

The actual standard is much lower: they are indeed laughable but are they confirmable?

On the one hand, you want it to fail so folks will wake up vote the Dems back in. On the other hand, last time the GOP had power, they did so much damage in eight years, we haven’t undone it, and this time they have UNIFIED power in all areas of government. And Trump is more authoritarian than anyone ever in the White House and has surrounded himself with even crueler authoritarians who will abuse power and use his inexperience and vanity to further their own ends.

These guys will have the nuclear codes and a monopoly on law enforcement and control of the military. I fear for our country.

i can understand Kushners’ wanting to get revenge for Christie sending his father to prison. But for god’s sake, the guy broke the law! He was a criminal!

“confusion” my ass…Christie was responsible for sending Kurshners father to jail for tax evasion…

That would be a resounding “no”, of course, and I know you are being ironic.

Who better to head up a government that doesn’t believe in the authority of government.

I enjoyed Maddow’s take on this.
Christie in 2004 took down the NJ Gov MAIN contributor in a nasty display of show everyone what he did to deserve REAL prison time. That MAIN contributor? Trump’s son-in-law thru Ivanka!
