What he means is that they need to shut up and go back to silently accepting pervasive institutionalized racism so we can return to sweeping everything under the rug and pretending all is really equal, white people aren’t enjoying massive systemic privilege and that racism is dead. People lifting the rug for everyone to see what’s under it sort of wrecks that comfortable status quo and threatens to undo those privileges, which they consider rights to which they are entitled.

Yes. Unfortunately, what he said is something I’ve heard many white people from all walks of life saying: all lives matter, which just so happens to be a blatant misunderstanding of the original phrase. So while he’s a nutcase and pretty much everything he says and does should be ignored as the ravings of a madman, this particular statement is something that could actually connect with some people. It’s disturbing.
