Discussion: Migrant Caravan Swells To 7K As Trump Fabricates Conspiracy Theories

Fabrication are the fabric that Dotatd is made of.

I greatly hesitate to borrow this, but as far as immigrants longing to live the American Dream, those folk walking through Mexico headed to the American border are collectively having a #metoo moment. No different from the ancestors of the vast majority of us. They, too, want to live the American Dream.

If the United States had real leadership, this wouldn’t happen because Central Americans would be happy to stay where they are — home.

The huddled masses yearning to be free
They have forgotten our ideals

Steve Schmidt: 10/18/2018
“This is a deliberate strategy of incitement. In American politics, our leaders used to go out and try to persuade the American people that their side was perhaps a little bit more correct than the other side. There’s never been a gentle period of American politics, but what we’re seeing here is something new, particularly from our president. He uses lying at mass rallies to scapegoat minority populations. He alleges conspiracies. He creates a sense of mass victimization and then positions himself as the avenger on behalf of the victims, defending them from the invading hoard of migrants coming from the south, approaching the border. This is all BS of the first order.”

He continued, “When you see Newt Gingrich up there, one of the most singularly pernicious forces in the history of American politics, a man who, more than any other, has wrecked the collegiality, the comedy, who began and begat this era of partisan warfare. When you see his smug smirk talking about caravan and Kavanaugh, caravan and Kavanaugh, the caravan. These are vulnerable people fleeing some of the most violence ravaged places on earth. And why do they walk for 2,000 miles? Because of the power of an idea. That idea is this place—America, a place where people are free. and they are safe. And the idea that when a mother, through suffering, through abuse, through risk and sometimes death all around them, when they reach the border and they see a uniform with an American flag and they are no longer safe. Or that baby is ripped away and put into an internment camp, this is a moral outrage that harkens to the worse excesses in the history of this country, to the separation of families at the slave auction blocks, to the separation of native American families. It is a moral outrage.”

One measure of The Rump’s transcendent, universal awfulness, is how easily and frequently some event completely unrelated to him, looks like a half-baked conspiracy to make him look awful.

If the caravan is in Mexico, how do its numbers keep growing with Central Americans?

And those 7K, many who are children, will cause the loss of millions of US jobs, cause you know they are such harder workers, especially the kids, and they reproduce like rabbits!

I’ve got a conspiracy theory of my own.

My question is whether rumors were spread that migrants have a significant chance of gaining asylum in the US.

Have the media interviewed migrants on that subject? This caravan has clearly become part of Trump’s strategy for the midterms. Having it occur just now makes me suspect that the Trumpists could be behind this.

They are some of the only people on the planet who still believe the American Dream.

We actually need them.

@voreason - I saw something this morning that something on Honduran TV started this.

Reminds me of that guy with the funny moustache back in Germany late 1920s - 1930s, he whose name no one should be compared too lest … oh, wait, I forgot, Godwin’s Law has been suspended for the time being, so just let’s say Trump sounds exactly like Hitler!

“They are some of the only people on the planet who still believe the American Dream.”

I agree with you. Immigrants who become US citizens are often very patriotic.

It’s a damn shame that we need immigrants to remind us what it actually means to be an American.

Of any descent.

Same thing around the world. People aren’t safe from us anywhere.
