Discussion for article #228981
You know…if Nunn takes Georgia, the GOP can kiss taking the Senate goodbye, they have to hold both Kentucky and Georgia and take the other six major races to win.
And I’ll drop my jaw if she actually does it!
Way to go Michelle.
Better have someone ready to pick it up!!!
HOW couLD anYOne WHo vOTEd FOR OHbuMMer aDMit they VOted FOr OHBUMMer and NOT just KEEP their MOuths SHUT?
I’ll be so glad to see it happen though. Imagine Georgia going to Nunn…if the Dems hold some of the others, the GOP is really going to be in disarray.
Well articulated but I should mention in Grimes’ defense, Georgia is a lot bluer than Kentucky in terms of presidential voting patterns over the past two elections.
Of course she voted for Obama. The choice was between him and a multi-millionaire vulture capitalist who wouldn’t release his tax returns and thinks 47% of Americans are lazy slackers.
If she wins, I’m just hoping everyone rooting for her remembers why they were rooting for her. She’s not going to be Joe Lieberman or Blanche Lincoln, I think, but I’m expecting plenty of “look at me voting against my own party!” grandstanding.
But, she may surprise me. Joe Manchin has been significantly less terrible than I was expecting. I mean, that was a pretty low bar to clear, but he did it.
Good for Michelle Nunn.
But the political atmosphere in Georgia is quite unlike the political atmosphere in Kentucky—and the difference in the demographics is really stunning.
I think the changing face of Georgia voters over the next 2 to 4 years will make her do less of that sort of thing than we might expect right now.
I’d like this 1,000 times if I could. Georgia is bluer and has a sizeable black population that she absolutely must turn out in order to win. She can admit having voted for Obama because it’s at worst a draw, and probably a net positive. That’s not the case for Grimes.
Thank you and a spot on analysis yourself. It’s possible the African-American portion of the Georgia electorate could be as high as 1/3. In Kentucky it’ll be maybe 1/4 of that. If Nunn can get 90% of those votes, she’ll need only 30% of the remaining white and Hispanic votes which I think she can get and probably exceed.
thank you, (future Senator) Nunn for showing courage in the face of right wing media idiots.
Nunn is also lucky to be running against Perdue, who has terminal hoof-in-mouth disease.
Pretty much the precise answer I’ve been screaming at the screen every time I’ve seen the video of Grimes…
It would certainly help Democrats’ efforts to hold the Senate, but it wouldn’t guarantee it. Montana and West Virginia are certain to flip. Colorado, Arkansas, Louisiana, Iowa and Alaska are within shouting distance but trending towards the Republican nominee. That’s seven, allowing the GOP to gain the Senate even if they lose Georgia. Democrats will need to hold on in NC and probably pick off Kansas as well to hold the Senate.
And I’ll be voting for you, Ms. Nunn.
If she confirms judges and executive appointments and votes 60% of the time with Dems on legislation, that’s good enough for me. I’m a Dem from Texas. I understand the dilemma of a Georgia Dem in statewide office. They do represent their state after all.
We’ll the perfect pivot for Grimes (assuming she did vote for President Obama) is simply saying, “of course I voted to re-elect Preisdent Obama instead of voting for the guy who promised to destroy KYnect.”
Then keep punching McTurtle on his lying and absurdist dodges on Obamacare repeal while protecting KYnect.
