Discussion: Michael Cohen’s Sentencing Memo Is Packed With Tantalizing Details

Notably, “in the weeks during which his then-counsel prepared his written response to the Congressional Committees, Michael remained in close and regular contact with White House-based staff and legal counsel to Client-1.”

Dowd? McGahn? Cobb? Rudy?

It would be nice if people stopped using ethnic slurs against the Scots. It hurts my self esteem and I would think TPM would be a safe space where I wouldn’t get triggered by a bunch of fucking sassanachs

“and get his wife and father-in-law (who has the money?) off Scott Free,”

Setting aside that he’s apparently talking about free paper towels, not people getting let off the hook, which is spelled (“Scot-free”)

  1. Anyone know WTF he’s talking about and why Trump seems to think that Cohen’s wife and father-in-law are at risk and/or part of the plea agreement?

  2. This is a threat directed at Cohen, his wife and father-in-law.

It doesn’t have to make sense with trump.

Those were the real crimes - they make Shrillery’s email crimes and Benghaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazi look like nothin’. Congress should subpoena Obummer’s tailor and Grey Poopon while they still have a chance. Meanwhile, tRump is makin’ Murikkka great again, doncha know?

Of course not, but he can’t help himself. He’s a Freudian slip faucet with a broken spigot. Generally, there are clues to his tangential, paranoid-delusional thought processes when he’s referencing things out of the blue like this. Also, he is most certainly dangling it out there that he could instruct Whitaker and DOJ to oppose any settlement that lets his wife and father-in-law off the hook or order them to be investigated for crimes.

Every day people are convicted of crimes that cause them financial and reputational ruin, personal embarrassment, suspension or permanent revocation of a professional license and near total destruction of future opportunities in their previous line of work. Yet all of the above does not lead a sentencing judge to forgo incarceration if the sentencing guidelines call for a jail term.

I’m with Spanky on this one.
Throw the book at Cohen!!!
He is only cooperating because the FBI raid, which came about because they caught him purgering himself, got solid evidence and probably tapes of his crimes.

I am right there with ya on this Ghost. I am sick and tired of slurs targeting us Scots. Where are the PC police when you need them for cris sakes?

I know a lot of people that want to see Cohen’s ass burned hard but I think that’s wrong. First of all if he’s part of what it takes to get Trump out of office he’s a damn hero first, tax cheat second. Then there’s the precedent he’s setting. If Mueller and NY go easy on him and make that known is due to his cooperation, Cohen’s telling the world if you want to come clean of Trump taint you need to spill your guts. There’s only one way out that lets you live on the street. Couple that with the jiving Manafort’s certain to be de-facto life in prison sentence and you have a powerful message there.

Time served. Restitution running at statutory interest rates. And full cooperation with anyone that needs it. Good enough for me.

It does if they make a deal. In this case a huge deal. I’m sure everyone you mention would get leniency considered if they ratted out a shitty POTUS.

Maybe not to get kompromat. Maybe just a feeding frenzy of lower lever schnooks looking to give Putin something shiny. Or maybe both.

Cohen has said that all he cares about is his family’s security and well being. Many times. He’s said do as you like with me but I want my family safe. I think that’s where this comes from.

Not to be a jerk, but they should throw the book at this guy. Make an example of him and fire a solid shot across the bow of all those cultists who think “this was all barely illegal,” and “this is just business.” If you take our country’s security seriously (and we know they do from the shitstorm they created over HRC’s emails, amirite? hehehe), then this was illegal, dangerous, and in conflict with the security of the nation Trump vowed to put “first.” Rot in jail, Mikey. Sorry.

Remember at this point , they had no intention of winning, just wanted to grease the works for future business deals after the election when Donnie and Co could revert to their life of crime.
Poor us he won and still reverted to his life of crime

Has there ever been a President with less faith in the American judicial system?

You can’t change the mind of a cultist. That’s the nature of the word. The example you’s make is :Cooperate at your peril. You’re going to get burned anyway. If Cohen gets burned there will be no incentive for anyone else to talk. As far as changing minds, there are two kinds of people. Those that can and those that can’t. Trumpers can’t.

I just hope Tweet can feel the hot breath on his neck of every person he has ever double-crossed, swindled, cheated or flat out robbed while he becomes more and more desperate and deranged. Go hold another rally, dimwit. Like any drug, it will become less and less satisfying as you sink into this beautiful and tremendous morass you have constructed.

If I may - not to contradict you, but they can. They just have to do it themselves - nobody can persuade them.
