Discussion: Mexico Says U.S. Troops On Border Won't Be Armed

So why are they even bothering taking these National Guard people from their everyday lives? Could it be just another “photo-op” for Trump?

That is exactly what this is. 2017 saw the fewest arrests for illegal border crossings in 42 years. I am finding it hard to believe that state governors will be going along with this dog and pony show. They should not allow the dotard to needlessly disrupt the lives of their citizens for a political show.

The National Guard troops will form a big beautiful human wall until Congress caves and lets the fucking moron baby-man build his real one. Here’s some Guard members practicing during an event earlier this year…

Soooooooo … these highly-trained National Guard soldiers will be what, exactly? Office assistants in combat boots? Will their deployment training include the secret menu at Starbucks? This stunt is grossly insulting to these men and women who signed up to serve their country.

The NRA will be quick to point out that, due to the inherent danger of IMMIGRANTZ, although the troops will not carry their issued weapons, they will all be bringing their own private machine guns, grenade launchers and tanks from home, many of which will be of higher quality and potency than their military ones.

They will be standing around with their thumbs up their butts, getting in the way of the Border Patrol. It will be good for the local economy, restaurants and motels will be full.

I posted this on the other TPM article about troops on the border but I think like “love” it can’t be said enough:

JADE HELM 18 !!! Run for your lives!!! Git ur GUN !!! :joy:

Unhinged trump found another issue to promote to do it bigger and better than Obama.
For extra points he included bush in the venue.
That will make a fine photo for his wall next to all the Time covers.
Millions of illegals standing behind your wall while you stand tall and proud on top of it.
Photoshopped of course.

Big fun with MRE’s and boredom. Bring sunscreen. Don’t pet the cholla.

I’m genuinely curious, and address this question to any fellow TPMers who have served in the National Guard or are veterans of the Army: what do you think the reaction of Guardsmen is to this announcement? Are there avenues available to them to protest this deployment (I.e, refusing to report on the grounds this is an illegal order)?

Oy, do I miss this man.

Yet another Republican publicity stunt using our forces as props, just like Trump’s proposed military parade. Is Donald stuck back in the 1970s and think he’s Tito?

So who helps stranded citizens when the winter thaw and spring floods hit the rest of the country? Make illegals in sanctuary cities pitch in as slaves before ICE deports them?

The typical response will be WTF but they really don’t have any choice except to do it.

They are going to end up waiting for nothing to happen per the mission statement that Trumpski will never get around to tweeting. While they are there thinking about their jobs and businesses being neglected there will be many opportunities to tell the trumplicans among them: “You voted for this shit!” Look for the usual :Two weeks and weekends my ass!" graffiti.

Well, unless Donnie Two-scoops is nationalizing the Guard in those states, the troops remain under the command of the Governor. No notice has gone out that California, Arizona, New Mexico, or Texas Guard units have been nationalized, so I’d say at this point that no one is going anywhere.

It’s highly unlikely that Governor Brown of California will cooperate with this silliness. Susanna “Party Girl” Martinez of New Mexico is term-limited out come January of 2019. Her approval ratings are in the tank and I don’t think New Mexicans have much stomach for putting the Guard on the border.

Greg “I’ve got mine, strict liability limits for you” Abbott of Tejas is Donnie Two-scoops’ butt buddy so he’ll almost certainly play along. Arizona is a crazy place – I’ve no idea how this will play there.

I think that this announcement is a shiny object to distract the man-baby’s attention. I honestly don’t expect to see anything happening, or, if something does happen it’ll be mostly in Tejas where Two-scoops thinks he has friends.
