U.S. President Donald Trump tweeted congratulations: “I look very much forward to working with him. There is much to be done that will benefit both the United States and Mexico!”
Yes, I’m sure Lopez Obrador is looking forward eagerly to having to deal with you, you moron.
I am sure Spanky will want to talk to you about building a wall. If you manage to get Mexico in order and conditions in the US continue to deteriorate, maybe you will want to build it – to keep Americans out.
I don’t know much about him but I do know Mexico has been governed by far too long by kleptocrats.
Given the ability to naturally develop their political systems, without violent interventions of the US or by proxy, our appetite for drugs, one wonders where the political development and economies of Mexico, Central and South American countries would be today. Perhaps this will be a chance to see.
Power and money do have an odd effect on people, though. I had such hopes for Brazil under the PT.
I may be going out on a limb but I’m guessing Mexico is not going to pay for the wall. s/
Interesting thing only slightly related to the election is that, according to my son that lives in Mexico, some states in Mexico don’t sell alcohol during the election. Reminded me of being on MO a couple weeks back and went to convent store to get some beer and found out they were a dry county, although some restaurants sell alcoholic beverages. Which took me even further back in memories of liquor by the drink laws in some NC counties.
“Lopez Obrador, who campaigned on vows to transform Mexico and oust the “mafia of power” ruling the country, rode widespread voter anger and discontent with the governing Institutional Revolution Party, or PRI, of President Enrique Pena Nieto…”
I wish him great fortune in this effort but it is not going to be an easy task. There are powerful, entrenched and violent forces that will oppose him and corrupting influences that will tempt him.
Mexico a role model for the US… Trump’s head explodes.
“Poor mexico, so far from God, so close to the United States.” (loose translation.)
Convent stores sell only sacramental wine.
Sorry only grape juice in Pike County MO. You’ll have to loosen the lid and let it sit on a shelf a few months if you want any wine. Or just drive to a neighboring county that does sell alcohol in bottles or cans. Reminds me of folks in NC driving across the SC state line to get fireworks in the old days.
I don’t know much about Mexican politics, but I’ve got to wonder if 2016 and Trump helped energize the anti-corruption, anti-poverty, pro-social good forces there. Not to mention the affirmation of the left wing of the Catholic Church under Pope Francis.
