Discussion: Merrick Garland Recuses Himself From Handling Kavanaugh Ethics Complaints

Wait I thought the new standard for how you deal with conflicts as a judge is that you go on TV and engage in an angry, sob-choked display alternating between furious spitting rants about conspiracies and vows for revenge on the other party, and bouts of self-pity and apologies for getting angry. Recusing yourself quietly sounds way too professional, non-partisan, and responsible for a federal judge.

As if the difference between ethics and Republicans needed to be highlighted further…

Judge Garland is acting like a judge. Any ruling he would make would be viewed as biased no matter how valid. Also, why should he have to go through the agony of this?

While Clarence continues to sit on cases where wifey has taken political positions and income.

Honorable Justice, Merrick Garland…

How quaint. A judge avoiding even the appearance of impropriety.

As John Paul Stephens said the other day, Kavanaugh recusing himself from cases involving anyone he raged on just last week would put him on part-time status.

Man, I’d take another part-time job and dedicate every penny to make sure Christine Blasey Ford, Deborah Ramirez, and Karen Swetnick were in the front row of the Court when Kavanaugh hears his first case.

Probably rides a horse & buggy to work.

Are you implying he won’t recuse himself from the impending lock-her-up Hillary case and the charge-and-convict a sitting orange buffoon case? Yes, I agree.

Today Josh ran a ridiculous piece claiming Kavanaugh won by going Trump…he didn’t.
He won because Josh and the Dems proved they will never attack or defend anyone even to stand up for a sexual assault survivor .
The reason Dr. Phil is the #1 talk show isn’t because of nuanced reasoning. Its because he uses polygraphs and calls people out on their bs.
Kavanaugh is a judge who supports polygraphs and she took one and he didn’t. No DEMS including Huff-Po , TPM and the rest attacked him for this obvious sign of guilt but they sure all ran headlines responding to the GOP attacks about hers…Headlines like …Ford claims she didn’t cheat polygraph !. The weak liberal press machine all ran that headline but not a @#$#@! peep about Kavanaugh not being outraged enough to take a polygraph. Was Al Franken right to resign for grabbing rear ends ?..of course he was… just like Trump was politically 100% right to attack him for resigning because it reinforces the fact that LIBs/Dems will never attack or defend anyone no matter how obvious the facts or important the cause, Its becoming impossible to ask people to vote DEM when its obvious Josh and the rest would watch America get invaded by a foreign power and run headlines like “Invaders may have mislead us about their intentions but facts still uncertain”

So, what’s the weather like in St. Petersburg?

That’s simply not true. The Democrats on Judiciary fought as hard as they could. They forced Kavanaugh into committing serial crimes on television. But you know what you fail to mention? They didn’t have the damn votes. Josh never attacks anyone? Do you even read TPM? Please. The worst thing is when people like you repeat this ridiculous canard, other credulous people with a similarly superficial understanding of what politics is and how it works are influenced not to donate to, volunteer with, or vote for those awful feckless corporate shill Dems who never fight. You’re not helping, OK? You’re hurting the cause. You hurt the cause two years ago and you’re doing it again. Stop. We need everyone now. See these people? They’re “Dems” and they’re fighting this thing. I took the damn picture because I’m kind of their house photographer. Get with us now. There’s no time to be a sorehead.

… is because after getting a jump-start from Oprah, he employed a folksy ‘Ah sound like a Good ol’ boy an ahm’a peddle pseudoscience at ya ta make ya feel good, then sternly lecture folks t’brush up on mah ‘family-oriented’ cred!’ strategy. He and Dr. Oz are hucksters, nothing more.

Yes, there is no doubt that with a few more hard-hitting TPM articles Kavanaugh would have been soundly defeated. Josh Marshall is the ultimate king-maker. The Republicans must have offered something big to buy him off. Maybe 100 Prime memberships?

Of course this was the correct thing to do.

But I’d ask the rest of the community here: if all the good guys bench themselves just because they’ve been personally impacted by the reckless careers of unapologetic villains, then who exactly do we think will be left to bring them down?

Do you think the partisan sleeper judges grown in Koch Labs are going to recuse themselves from cases involving their masters’ far-flung empires? Do you think justice is best-served when every qualified and sincerely impartial public servant can be easily 86ed as long as the villain had the luck or foresight to embroil them in some earlier, smaller injustice?

Who will be left? Only the corrupt.

Just like Kavanaugh will be sure to recuse himself when any number of Trump related lawsuits make their way up to the SC.

You used to post here under another user name which I can’t remember but your style remains the same. Democrats are bad, blah, blah, blah, and all that’s missing from this POS post is you calling someone a “genius.”
