Discussion: Merkel: Europe Can No Longer Entirely Rely On US

“We have to take the configurations as they are,” Merkel said. “As G-20 chairwoman, I have the job of working out ways of reaching agreement and not contributing to an inability to talk.”

“At the same time, the differences must not be swept under the carpet,” she added.

I like Merkel…

Donald Trump is the perfect President to usher the decline of the US into irrelevance. His slogan should be “Let’s Party Like It’s 1928.”

And she is a research scientist holding a doctorate in physical chemistry. Very practical and very well educated.

Jeebs, the Trumpler hasn’t even landed in Poland, yet and he’s already involved in an international ‘incident’.

“The U.S. will probably not engage in Africa to the extent that would be necessary, particularly since they barely have oil interests any more in Africa and the Arab world,” she said.

This is what the kids today call a “sick burn”, right?

Three of my little boy’s great-grandparents helped save democracy from Hitler’s Germany.

And now, Trump has forfeited leadership of the Free World to the children of that Nazi Reich they crushed.

What few WWII veterans who remain must vomit daily at the mere thought…

So does Macron. Which is no doubt, deeply troubling to Putin right now.

And we know Merkel remembers all too well. She grew up in East Germany.

Interesting piece although long and not encouraging.

with President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan among those attending.

Could really use a precision meteor strike in the very near future.

The subtext of “Will Trump pivot?” makes it difficult to take its assessments too seriously however. Trump is most likely to use the Polish visit to thumb his nose at Germany and the larger EU, which he will build upon further at the G-20 summit…a prime event for him to go full bore with his anti free trade/protectionists theories. All of this gets inflamed even more as he buddies up to Putin…precisely what Europe is dreading.

And then we will get to see if he pins the tail on the orange donkey by sneaking into England, trying to avoid protesters.

My guess is, we should all buckle up and prepare for an extremely bumpy ride while he is there.

And oh…there is a pretty decent chance that some more stories will break loose on the Russian front while he and his advisers are out of the country. Because even shit sundaes deserve a cherry on top.

I like Europe better than I like my own country, right now … and it seems that this happens only when there’s a Republican administration here.

I think it’s because Republicans are Evil.

No doubt it will be bumpy. Any chance that Trump will lift the sanctions imposed by Obama? And if so what will Congress do? Bluster from the usual suspects and that’s it. I think there is a greater than 50/50 chance that some of the sanctions are lifted.

If Trump, Putin and Erdogan were meeting in a bunker at the Wolf’s Lair then I’d agree.

Sadly, Merkel is right as long as this nutjob is in office. I guarantee you tRump hasn’t done any homework in preparation for this summit. I’m sure he just plans on winging it, even if his staff have given him all the necessary history lessons, crib notes, information by way of political biopics and Hollywood historical dramas, or children’s picture books on the history of the world.

This man knows nothing and prides himself on it, bigly. Merkel knows what East Germany was like growing up under Soviet control. tRump probably still thinks it was a mistake for Russia to relinquish control when the people rose up against the Soviets. Merkel speaks Russian. tRump barely speaks Pig Latin, and when he does, its unintelligible.
