Discussion: Melissa Harris-Perry On Leaving MSNBC: They Just Wanted ‘Horserace’ Coverage

Sorry… it’s an election year. Don’t want to cover an election? Take a leave of absence, write a book.

Why is virtual Josh counting my page views?

As someone with another job, I’m guessing it was more her reluctance to be on-call for periods of “horse race” down-time, only to be interrupted because “something happened”. Talk about being minimized. MSNBC’s been doing this somewhat with those so inclined among their young, on-call 24/7 team but they all, 'cept Mrs. G & Tweety, seem to need a good meal and a long nap unless freshly showered and zapped with coffee.

MSNBC wants $$$.
Breathless, mind-numbingly boring “Horse-race” coverage generates lots and lots of easy $$$.
End of story.
She is just now figuring that out?

I think she always knew it, it’s just that she’s free to speak her mind now.

Steve Kornacki sucked it up and look at him now. He’s a star elections district analyst. And you’re a boorish entitled college professor.

Agreed. It’s an election year and the fact is, things have been crazy this cycle. Covering the race (even Rump’s craziness) is important and sometimes you do have to see it in real time. Sorry, but the race is actually more interesting than you are. Every anchor knows that this is what comes with the job. Yes, you were paid to do this. Now, no.

The integrity thing.is good until it doesn’t pay the mortgage.

The network just wanted to attract viewers to show them commercials. How dare they!

Ms. Harris-Perry was too good for that network. They have tapes of the Morning Ho’s planning their questions with Trump and agreeing to follow his instructions to “take it easy on him” and NOTHING HAPPENED TO THEM. And the honest, independent, INTELLIGENT, moral Ms. Harris-Perry is let go. Screw MSNBC. What a disappointment! What a disgrace!

she felt particularly affronted by the MSNBC’s decision to let her go given that Brian Williams returned to the network after a six-month suspension for fabricating his own reporting experiences on air.

Being affronted by MSNBC decision doesn’t make sense. She stood up to her bosses. Brian Williams didn’t. He is weak (and easily controlled by his bosses); she came strong. You should expect to be fired. I hope she knows she will always have a tough time getting a similar job elsewhere.

This is life.

We just could not live if we missed 30 minutes of DT. He gets so little free time on MSNBC

Because he wants you to help pay for his reporters. They’re a crack team–virtually.

She walked off her show, and refused to appear.

How does she expect MSNBC to react.

She’s upset they cut ties? What an idiot.

99% of people who refused to show up for work because of a disagreement with their boss would be fired in a millisecond. Especially if they made a public spectacle of the disagreement.

MSNBC lost a certain amount of class when MHP left, and credibility also. She will be missed.

All websites track that info. This one tracks your page views and then tries to get you to join prime. I have no problem with them making that request. It is their site.

Everybody knows that the dice are loaded.
Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed.
Everybody knows that the war is over
Everybody knows that the good guys lost
Everybody knows that the game is rigged
The poor stay poor and the rich get rich.

Apparently everybody know this but you.
So, attack her for pointing out their sold-out
hypocrisy. How dare she. When you’re working
for the rich, you do what they say, or else.
