Discussion: Megyn Kelly Wonders Why Blackface Is Racist

Is she really that stupid, or is she playing a role?

I wonder if this dingbat thanks Trump every single day for elevating her reputation as a legitimate journalist. If it weren’t for him she’d still be crossing and uncrossing her gams between term life insurance and catheter commercials.

She sets the image of a woman back at least half a century. A stupid sorority sister Ă  la 1955, the type whose mission in college was to find a husband and who never looked for anything but the main chance.

That’s all she looks for now too, the main chance. She’s refuse.

That’s possible. Of course, it takes about 2-3 seconds to google it. It’s also possible that she did it intentionally, in a desperate attempt to increase ratings.

She is not old enough to really have grown up with that.

A lot of people don’t know this but there is a special technician on the set of Megyn Kelly Today. His sole job is to man the high-pressure air pump to ensure the proper PSI level of her head is maintained at all times.

You’ve nailed it. The heart of white privilege is taking for granted the ability to use whiteness as the standard norm and measure everything else as it compares to that norm. Whiteness is not a neutral trait, even though we white people are taught to believe it to be so.

Is that the most diverse panel Megyn could muster?

Megan Kelly wants Fox News to take her back, she is doing merits.

This is proof, as if you needed any, that Ms. Kelly has no black friends.

Caveat: I do not know her personally.

My impression is that she’s not ignorant enough to be unaware of what you and I consider relevant history.

Assuming she’s aware of said history, then either (1) she thinks it’s irrelevant and needn’t affect how people behave today … or … (2) she is being disingenuous.

Both (1) and (2) are, in my opinion, unacceptable.

So Megyn is implying that black people are just not normal.

As long as she gets her white Santa, I guess she’ll be all right. Seriously, has this woman read nothing that would help her understand this issue and why blackface is not acceptable? Why is this person allowed on TV at all?

Well, it’s not because she has a demonstrated interest in truth and justice.

And why anyone would find minstrel shows offensive.

If there is sufficient demographic insulation (by large-scale geography, by suburban segregation, or something else), a white kid may grow up around so many other white kids, and so few non-white kids, that this is learned by default, without any ill intent.

If peers are 90% white through your formative years, it takes active effort on the part of the parents and teachers to prevent a child from absorbing this lesson by their own generalizations about the world. Not every parent or teacher is up for that – for one, many of them internalized the same worldview when they were young.

Myself, I did not really perceive this until I was into my early or mid twenties. I can easily believe that Megyn Kelly has just never really thought about it, and habitually travels in social circles which are not inclined to bring it up.
