As the weeks go by, I’m beginning to define this “shake up” as “those who are running for the exits are shaking up those left in the Trump White House”, and not the other way around!
he has been consistently losing big and important cases
While the focus here is the Russian collusion angle and the sleazy lawyer Trump has hired, it’s important from a strategic and tactical standpoint for the Democrats to keep the pressure on Trump and the Republicans across multiple combat fronts. It forces them to spread their forces more thinly than they’d otherwise want, and it multiplies the chances for them to make crippling mistakes.
I know hardball political combat is not their natural inclination, but perhaps the Democrats can figure out a way of using this:
“Trump’s budget plan lands with a thud in Middle America…The administration’s proposed federal budget cuts are, in effect, local budget cuts that ignore the economic realities of the communities that voted for Trump.”
If nothing else, it might even embolden the Democrats to offer up a self-confident defense of government activity in the public affairs of the country, something that the GOP has browbeaten them into constantly retreating from and apologizing for over the last 40 years.
“#NoItWon’t”
Here’s one for ya - so the incompetent loud mouth hires an incompetent loud mouth to defend the problems that arose from being incompetent loud mouths. How many weeks until the first incompetent loud mouth is blaming the incompetence of the second loud mouth for his own incompetence?
“Kasowitz is currently defending Sberbank—Russia’s largest, state-run financial institution…”
Jeez! Is there ANYONE in Trump’s orbit who is not knee deep in Russian banking/government/intrigue!?
This one’s interesting. According to the linked article, Sberbank’s a state-run bank that nevertheless managed to get itself in trouble in Russia. The people involved are accused of having used their government connections to commit a series of frauds that led to eliminating a large rival in the Russian granite market. Their kill-stroke, according to the complaint, involved collusion with Sberbank to squeeze the company when it tried to refinance. Because the crime and coverup were so gigantic, they even run afoul of advisors in Putin’s government who have been attempting to investigate this whole thing. The parties bringing the lawsuit against Sberbank are nevertheless filing it in U.S. court on the basis they can’t get a fair trial in Russia. Enter Kasowitz!
Bizarre.
Oh, I love that photo!! What an expressive face she has!
So is it a conflict of interest or does Trump’s lawyer represent the same interest in both matters?
hires an incompetent loud mouth
I don’t get the sense he’s loud mouthed, nor incompetent. He’s defended several really, really bad actors and occasionally either delivers a win for them and at least postpones penalties for as long as possible (which is often as good as a win in the corporate world).
He represented him in fraud allegations surrounding Trump University
What’s missing is that trumPP had to pay $25 million to the plaintiffs in this case (lawyers for plaintiffs waived their fees, thank you), so this is what winning in trumPP world. Guy needs a criminal lawyer, not a hard charging schmoozer which is what he sounds like.
I agree. I would question the view that Kasowitz is competent. He certainly doesn’t seem to understand the First Amendment. And, in the Trump University case, the SLAPP suit Trump brought against the original plaintiff resulted in an award of attorney fees in favor of the plaintiff of around $800,000. Kasowitz’ strategy seem to be just to fight and obstruct. Certainly, that can make life unpleasant for plaintiffs, but it’s usually not a winning strategy in the long run.
They will even buy his move to Russia after he ousted and prosecuted in the US.
No they won’t. Trump is Putin’s patsy, not his bff.
It’s important to trumPP as we’ve seen many times that the people who work for him be loyalists first and competent second. He doesn’t want to hear the truth or the complex details of a case which he’s incapable of understanding. Kasowitz took a case suing a guy for writing a book saying trumPP was not a billionaire, and sued for billions. They lost. But really, would a billionaire sue for billions? He gets paid to do the whatever trumPP wants, winnable or not.
"Not only was the case thrown out, because Kasowitz failed to prove O’Brien acted with malice, but Trump was forced to turn over scores of tax returns and other financial documents and undergo lengthy and revealing depositions in the process."
Ha, ha, ha….What a lovely, stupendous BACKFIRE.
Kasowitz’s firm must have a special hire who makes big, colorful graphics and illustrations for any presentation made to donnie.
Now there’s a nice, warm handshake.
I love that gimlet-eyed stare, but I hope the various Russia investigations will soon give Angela a reason to smile broadly again.
Too bad the typical defense of throwing money at a situation won’t work
Probably a little harsh (mostly due to contempt) but I stand by it. The man has spent the better part of 15 years trying (and largely failing) to clean up Donnie’s messes through a mixture of intimidation, overt threats and comical denial (the article covers some of this).
Its gone… poorly, hurting his reputation (he was, at one time, a pretty successful corporate crisis-management type, albeit mostly for the scum of the earth) and reducing his clout.
Trump breeds incompetence by refusing to deal even fleetingly with the real world. IMO his favourite lawyer has fallen into that trap. I suspect this was not Donnie’s best decision.
Russia, Russia, Russia.
Did I miss a political ad? Did Republicans say Trump’s election would give us all-Russia, all the time?
