Yeah, that’s typical religious cultist logic at its finest.
I was waiting for the part where these dudes explained how my marriage hurts their marriages, but it never came. It’s just the same old anti-freedom “my religion should be the law of the land” claptrap. Well, buddy, I’m not a Mormon or a Christian or anything else. You want to trample on my constitutional freedoms because your religion is too fragile to tolerate the existence of other ways of thinking.
Thanks for that review of marriage in America. Obviously always kind of screwed up rules, and soon another silly rule falls.
Straight eye for the queer guy.
Exactly right. One of my favorite Mormon stories is how caffeine was considered bad (a stimulant) until the Church purchased a huge block of stock in Coca Cola. Suddenly soda machines started popping up all over Utah, including of course BYU campus…and caffeine in Coke was good!
…until they sold of the block of stock and then had every soda machine selling coca cola replaced because, caffeine was once again bad.
The only way I can make sense of it is that he is desperately trying to justify his decision to deprive himself of what he really wants–and that means every other gay man should suffer as much as he has. If gay marriage were legal, even though it would still conflict with his religion (which he is also desperately trying to convince himself that he really, REALLY believes) then it would be too apparent how unnecessary his choices are.
The attempt to sell himself on things he doesn’t believe is really strong with this one.
Maybe he just had a cranky morning. It happens.
Shorter SSA Married Mormon Male: Help! I’m having trouble following the precepts of my faith so I need the government to forbid me from marrying someone of the same sex. And make sure that everybody else has to follow the precepts of my religion.
I’m not sure what country he thinks he lives in?
Honestly, most people don’t know the history of marriage in the world or that there are so many different forms of marriage. We know about polygamy in the Middle East, but several places practice a form of it called Polyandry involving one woman and more than one man. . .there really is no such thing as traditional marriage as a blanket covering all forms of marriage. That’s the height of ethnocentrism. Marriage is diverse and different in so many places and across time.
Of course! And the laughably stupid comments by those like Romney and his pandering political ilk are so stupefyingly ignorant that words fail. Obviously, marriage is NOT between ONE man and ONE woman today. A momentary reflection on the Middle East would end such a laughable thought.
Despite Ted Allen’s dapper look and charm…I’ve known several gay men who couldn’t decorate their way out of a paper bag. Not all gay men are interior decorators and dancers in Cats…
Yes, this is exactly it in a nutshell.
Keep reading–there have already been a couple.
It’s basic ethnocentrism. As far as they are concerned, other cultures do not have marriage. I have extensive training in anthropology and archaeology and what I’ve learned is that Marriage depends on the culture- which changes over time and even location.
I wanted to read the whole story and watch the video, but I just couldn’t take it anymore. I have better things to do BUT can someone explain why I couldn’t stop the video and even when I switched to another story, the audio was still on. I had to quit the browser to stop the noise.
Its like like they’ve bought a lemon car. They know its a lemon, but want everyone to buy the same model so they don’t feel so bad about their choice.
heh – that is a kind of irony isn’t it?
“To be clear, Weed’s not bisexual. He’s gay. Period. But the lack of sexual attraction he has for Lolly means they must rely more heavily on communication. “This has resulted in us having a better sex life than most people I personally know,” he wrote.”
This guy supports gay marriage so I have no problem with how he wants to lead his own life. But, still, what does this even mean ? What sort of “communication” allows you to have great sex with someone you’re not attracted to? Either talking with her allows him to overcome his inner obstacles (whatever they are) to enjoying sex with a woman–in which case he IS actually bisexual (i.e., his immediate reactions don’t constitute the whole of his sexuality). Or he is just trying to talk himself into believing he is enjoying sex with her, in which case he doesn’t actually have such a good sex life.
The real problem here, it seems to me, is the problem with so many traditionally religious people–the insistence that reality has to fit rigidly into their preset categories. I.e., the opposite of actual “faith.”
