Discussion: McDonnell Avoided Wife, Put Marriage 'On Hold' While In Governor's Mansion

On top of that, he ran his entire campaign based on family values. Maureen and the kiddies were in all the ads.

I cannot wait for Maureen McDonnell’s defense attorney to take the stage.

If they don’t divorce - this will all look like the slimy contrived rouse that it probably is.

You can bet the Guv and his wife have their stories somewhat coordinated. I think that’s the gameplan. She’s taking the heat off of him with this boneheaded defense i think. “On hold”, my ass…until they can get through this trial at least, then all bets are off. They’re both in stinking hot water. Both are culpable, but he even more so as an elected public servant with corruption charges hanging over his head.

Are there any charges against her that aren’t conspiracy? If conspiracy is the only charge then “we didn’t talk” seems to be a defense. I suppose they could have tried “We did not talk about this because we spent all our time together talking about religion and making love.” but they have more witnesses to support “I did not talk to her because she is really really awful.”

I’m not sure that will ultimately work so well. “I became corrupt to placate my harpy of a wife” still has the “corrupt” part in it. Of course, depending on what kind of people are on the jury.

So what? So your marriage was on the rocks, that explains the pay to play scheme the governor was involved in?

I don’t believe this legal strategy of putting it all on the little bit nutty little bit slutty wife is going to work.

Some wives are eager political partners, e.g. Nancy R., and love every minute of it (except for the attempted assassination part), but I believe most others must be dragged reluctantly, e.g. Ann R, so the ambitious hubby can succeed. Even Michelle was initially wary of politics and said it took “convincing on Barack’s part” but she also understood she could advocate for issues she cared about. Either way he cannot do it without her even when it comes to confessing his sins and/or crimes or winning the presidency.

This is merely more corruption in the form of a crass defense tactic.

Maureen has more than tire tracks on her back.

The wounds on her back is bleeding and are badly infected and oozing puss.

I hope her kids are looking out for her because this trial can push an already depressed individual to suicide.

I think Ann Romney wanted to be First Lady more than the husband wanted to be president.

Her defense will say she’s mentally unstable and it’s the businessman’s fault.

Ann thought she and Mitt were entitled to be First Lady and President because after all they were Ann and Mitt and this country needed them though we didn’t know it.

“The couple’s defense lawyers are trying to show that their marriage was so strained that the two couldn’t have conspired to use the power of the governor’s office to promote Williams’ dietary supplements company in exchange for those gifts.”

Except that they both loved money more than each other.
Next defense, please.

Yet, the gov knew his wife did not want to be in the limelight, was not ready to be the first lady, but family values governor went full speed aheadSo the question is…is this now a show? Ever since the charges were made against the two of them , they have been seen in public being quite affectionate with each other. A week before criminal charges…he moves out and now they won’t even make eye contact? Or did family values guv simply say…if one of us is going to jail…it’s not me?

marriage “on hold”

must be a evangelical thing.

sounds very “fallen woman” to me. take a little responsibility. oh. right. responsibility is for the poor.

It’s the “Bitches be crazy” defense, and if I were the prosecutor, I would call it that in my summation.

McDonnell took a gifts somewhere north of 100 grand, and he promoted the guy’s snake oil cure in exchange.

That’s the story.

I’m with you SDSUMom, Maureen’s attorney should shake the hubby out of his last red cent.
