Where I’m from, in rural Mississippi, I grew up knowing lots a God-fearing, hard-working, independent conservative minded African-American family’s.
On the McDaniel Campaign we had two young men from just such family’s on our staff.
I know Blacks (so I’m not a racist)- check
We even had two work on our campaign - check
See the problem isn’t really Cochran - per se. His method was dubious but at least he saw he needed to extend his hand to get votes from people not prone to vote for him or his party. That’s actually a good move. And smart. You don’t LIMIT your vote to “God-fearing, hard-working, independent conservative minded” people. And you certainly don’t try to win favors by referring to just those African-American families you supposedly know as such - that’s akin to saying a Black person is “articulate”. If you want votes, you include everyone in the mix, because you’ll at least want to appear you will be representing everyone.
But hell, what do I know. I’m thrilled they are still fighting and still mad Cochran got Black votes. It reminds folks of the racism and intended exclusion in that party. So by all means, carry on. I’ll just be over here opening yet another bag of butter popcorn

For some reason this reminds me that Mississippi is the lowest-ranked state for adult literacy. All right, people confuse “its” and “it’s,” but who doesn’t know the plural of the word “family”? Jeeze.

Agreed, and I’m thinking this nasty, racist dispute playing out right before their eyes will drive Black voter turnout in November. If Blacks come out in big numbers, teabaggers largely stay home, and some conservatives vote for Childers in protest this may be a perfect shit storm of events that gets a Democrat elected in a ruby red state.

While the TP has been horrific for the country as a whole, they’ve very much been a net positive for Democrats. Its not simply the TP candidates that are helping Democrats win, it’s also that they’ve pushed the mainstream GOP so far to the right. When Republicans were celebrating because so many establishment candidates won primaries, what they failed to mention was that they won by being more batshit than the TP. That’s why I think it’s highly possible Democrats will wind up with a net loss of two seats. If that’s the case, if the TP helps Democrats hold the Senate again, I expect an epic GOP establishment meltdown.
