Discussion for article #226396
So that’s going to be the challenge? Black people voted, so he should be declared king outright? Gonna go well I expect.
“Among the votes voluenteers tallied”
Red fucking underline.
Anyway, why Jones county? It’s not the capital or anything.
We’ve all assumed that the challenge would go nowhere but none of us has really seen the evidence.
Caitlin, if you plan to file stories without using spell check, or even a second set of eyes, just turn in your resignation to Josh now.
SMDH
In terms of McDaniel and his tantrum, I only have three words: DISMISSED, WITH COSTS.
I like “Dismissed, with costs.” I can dig it.
Agreed. Every other article has the old it’s vs its problem, or who vs. whom, etc. This has been an ongoing problem with TPM for years. If Josh is a bad speller and has grammar issues, he should hire editors who aren’t and don’t.
Copy editors, unfortunately, have gone the way of buggy whip manufacturers. Most people think they can rely on spell checkers and grammar checkers – but both of those can get you into trouble fairly frequently.
By the way, you will note that Josh does not write the articles that appear here, and I would seriously doubt that he personally edits every one of them.
Venue shopping, perhaps?
So McDaniel’s volunteers found enough “irregular votes” to give him the election. Got it. I’m ready to rule.
You know what?
This probably hasn’t occurred to Chris McDaniel, but I’m just spitballing here…
If enough people get riled up about this and send in $50 each, that could really amount to more money than even this paper tiger of a suit requires. Maybe, and call me crazy here, maybe some of that extra cash, if it’s lying around, could be used for, say, campaign debt.
Just a thought. You’re welcome for the creative thinking, Chris – seems like this is just so obscure it would have never occurred to you.
Even then, there are all sorts of free programs that will under-damn-line an incorrect spelling in red.
Sigh, I remember copy editors. Where I work, we got rid of the department in 2010.
Are copy editors the only people who know what the red underline means?
Pass the popcorn? It’s gonna be a while until this movie ends.
I will say it yet again. Spelling and grammar are basic journalism 101 and simple professionalism. Lack of attention to basic detail such as this call into question the reliability and credibility of everything else - the rest of the content of the article, the reporter, and the whole of the publishing operation as well. Good thing none of you are doctors or airplane mechanics . . .
