Discussion for article #222863
I’m smelling fresh bullshit.
Follow the money.
No way they knew about this. First of all, even if they get pictures of the Senator’s wife, what possible use would it be for them? Any use of her in the campaign is a white hot third rail. Nobody would stand for them belittling an helpless coma patient. I think they’re as horrified as everyone else at this creepy jackass.
And yet, notice how they’re not exactly calling for this sick little twist to go directly to jail. For big badass patriots, these poor bastards are dead scared of alienating even ONE Teahadist!
Are you JOKING ME!!!
First, this is Mississippi. Second, this a Teabagger. Third, you just got all you need to know. If you think “they’re as horrified as everyone else at this creepy jackass” you are very naive. This WOULD be a white hot third rail as you say in any Democratic Blue state. No one would stand for it and the Democrat would call for this person to be jailed pretty quickly. As Smokin says, that ain’t happening.
I wonder why?
Ask around and see who thinks I’m very naive. I think this was a crazy teabagger who wanted something grotesque to slap in his blog like a bloody trophy. Even in Mississippi, this doesn’t fly. I agree that they don’t want to strongly repudiate him, because there are a lot of people who are twisted and hateful and they punch over their weight in the primaries, but in the general, this gets McDaniel crucified if it can be pinned to him that he sent someone to sneak into a nursing home to take a picture of a helpless, sick old woman to smear her husband. Sorry. That doesn’t even work in Mississippi.
Politics in the Deep South have a history of not just being tough; it sometimes goes beyond the pale. And I have no doubt that some pols down there would tell you “that’s just how it’s done here.” You and I are horrified because most sensible people would be. But that’s up here, not there.
Nope. I’m not buying what you’re selling. The GOP in MS can’t be all that large such that some “crazy teabagger” would just go off on his own like that while McDaniel knew nothing about it and never put a bug in this guy’s ear to maybe, possibly, see what he could do.
Nope, sorry, not buying the “lone wolf” theory at all.
He looks like Tim Allen, who could do a wicked send-up of him in a movie.
McDaniel Campaign Staffers Finally Get Together And Come Up With A Single Story
FTFY
Okay, first Clayton “Sick Individiual” Kelly, then another State Senator. Will McDaniel grow a third arm on his own or will he have to pray to Jesus in order to throw anyone else under the bus?
A political campaign can’t exactly go calling for a would-be constituent (probably) to go to jail when the facts of the case are still emerging. Do we still believe in due process or do we not?
I mean, Dylan Scott wrote, “a supportive blogger who allegedly broke into the nursing home,” (emphasis added), so plainly by suggesting it’s only an alleged crime TPM must be in on this act too.
In this case, though, it’s not just going beyond the pale but being colossally stupid – both in getting detected, and in getting detected for something of so little value. (Everyone already knew Mrs. Cochran was in a nursing home suffering from dementia.) Most, certainly not all, campaigns are smart enough not to embarrass themselves for something that to rational observers would hardly provide any advantage whatsoever.
But it’s the Tea primary and these people think Breitbart and O’Keefe are Woodward and Bernstein – this isn’t exactly the most rational electorate they’re appealing to – so who knows?

Other than the name of the rest home, Clayton Kelly’s name and the article mentioning he was a McDaniel supporter I’m not sure what she’s calling a preponderance of evidence that the guy went there to take pictures of Rose Cochran?
I doubt if the campaign sent him there but I think they’re lying about how and when they knew that Rose had been the target.
The Teabaggers certainly are making it easy for the corporate 'Pukies to take them out.
Unless it turns out that Kelly was actually operating a false flag dirty trick for the Cochran campaign, this will kill any chance that McDaniel had of getting an upset win. It doesn’t matter in the least if McDaniel truly had nothing to do with Kelly’s actions.
Teagate?
Well! This is a lively discussion and I’ll add my own scientific wild-ass guess, which is that the crazy blogger guy was buzzing around the campaign, hoping to be helpful, hoping deep down to be accepted and considered a cool guy by someone in this world, and they tolerated him because he might bring a few votes. Then at some point he called the campaign, saying “Guess what I did?” and they were horrified, told him take that shit down now, and started framing their public response. McDaniel is a bagger politically, but his career is pure establishment smart guy. I just don’t believe he’d tell a crazy guy to break into a nursing home and take pictures of a dementia patient. As others have said, it’s a disaster for the campaign with no upside I can possibly imagine. Their hope now is to avoid admitting they had any contact with the guy at all.
I think that scenario happens a good bit generally, but I still doubt the campaign said to go to the nursing home. What would be the point? They might have hoped for compromising photos of Cochran and this staffer, sure, that would make sense. But then we get to my other concern—this blogger is nuts, he’s the loosest of loose cannons. Maybe the campaign really was reckless enough to send him out looking for dirt, but I just don’t think it’s likely.
