What the attacks by Repugs on Bergdahl prove is that the decision to trade for him was at Obama’s discretion. Not only that, it also proves that to Repugs all Americans including its soldiers are just pawns in its attempt to bring down a duly elected president.

I mean if Obama did not have the discretion to act than it does not matter what type of soldier was Bergdahl. If, however, the argument is, Bergdahl was not worth the price we paid, that is entirely within the discretion of the president. In fact making these decisions is why Obama was elected.

I mean if Obama had not made the deal the GOP would be screaming “when will Obama let a hero’s dad shave.”

This is really a new low for Repugs. Stopping Obama from helping the economy recover from George Bush is one thing. Handing over world hegemony to the Chinese’s to stop Obamacare is something else. But attacking a POW who volunteered do what Repugs refused, fight in Bush’s wars, is a new low.

Another America hating traitor co-opted by the forces of Kenyan evil! A careful countertop inspection and a full-on assault by the 101st “Fightin’ Keyboarders” Chairborne is in order!

First time I have ever agreed with this guy.

Ding ding ding. What they’re basically saying is that his life wasn’t of value because he’s potentially a deserter. They’re saying a soldier doesn’t matter because he may have made some mistakes. I don’t know why anyone in the military or who has ever been in the military would support this hateful nonsense.

Great comment. I’m convinced that much of the animating pathos of the modern GOP, especially as disseminated by Ailes and his minions, is simply revenge for Nixon. ANY LENGTHS, just to sink a Democrat the way Nixon was brought down.

I don’t care what McCrystal has to say. I still don’t trust him. McCrystal acted like a jerk himself when he was in Afghanistan running things…This is the guy that carried out the Pat Tillman cover-up and bad-mouthed the VP. Eh, fuck 'em. Wouldn’t surprise me if he came back a day later with a revised and less nuanced opinion in which he lets it out that he’s not really withholding judgement on Bergdahl…and here it is…blah, blah, blah…

“I think we’re going to have to wait and talk to Sgt. Bergdahl now and get his side of the story”

You can’t get “his side of the story” without bring Sgt. Bergdahl home first.

Nixon resigned because he did not have enough Rethuglican votes to survive. The Democrats didn’t have a two-thirds majority.

Nixon needed to go and they really should get over it.

OT but I’m watching Tweety right now and I swear I wish I could find my rubber-tipped dart gun to shoot at my TV. I’ve never seen anyone so full of spittle-spray foaming at the mouth and getting his information sooo fucking wrong. He’s such a phony fuck of a motor-mouth. He’s actually claiming Bergdahl is not in the process of being swiftboated…he’s so willfully and stunningly ignorant!

Do these assholes really think we should have done nothing to try to get this man home at the end of this war because of assumptions that he’s not a good soldier? Were we supposed to let the Taliban mete out tribal justice (on our behalf) because we didn’t feel like negotiating for his release because somehow he wasn’t worthy of rescue? Un-fucking-believable.

Can we please pick a way to spell his name and stick with it?

I absolutely cannot watch him. Why is he taking this position? I usually have benign TV on in the early morning because I can’t face ruining my day before breakfast by watching Morning Joe or the other worthless shows, so sometimes I have the Today show on - but this morning the 5 talking heads on the Today Show were asking why the President would do this knowing it would cause a storm?

You just can’t get away from the insanity.

“…Sgt…”

Yeah, every Republican chicken hawk knows Sgt’s are just softies who don’t think straight.

I am also very suspicious of the response from the military, McCrystal notwithstanding. I watched a guy on CNN who was in another outfit describe the strangeness about every GI in the area (thousands) being required to sign a non-disclosure oath when Berghdal left. He said it was weird and unprecedented.

We’ve all heard about him being upset when an Afghani child was killed by a US vehicle and the reaction to the killing was one of humor by his cohorts. I am wondering if they are trying to completely discredit him so that any criticisms he has can be dismissed.

Why else is there such a disproportionate reaction to this? At first I thought it was typical “anything that Obama does is wrong,” but this is deeper than that. I am thinking this goes much deeper than 2 people (note: not some; not many, but TWO) in his squad who consider him a deserter. Is anyone else surprised that almost EVERY pundit is piling on lock-step with the new, improved GOP opinion on this guy? Almost no one is even asking to wait until we have all the information before convicting this guy. Yes, many belong on that level, but almost all? Why?

He was not listed as AWOL, nor as a deserter – why the rush to judgement? Giving up 5 people from Gitmo (all of whom will need to get getting out before too long) doesn’t cut the mustard either. Compare Bush’s and Obama’s Gitmo release history up until now – Bush’s releases had a 30% return to battle rate; Obama’s 5%.

I could go on, but would be interested in other’s thoughts as well.

Armchair KeyBoarders RULE. I’m betting those parents of Bergdahl have effing GRANITE COUNTERTOPS, and ergo, are commies.

Michael Hastings wrote about Bergdahl in 2012. http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/americas-last-prisoner-of-war-20120607

There seemed to be a bit of an issue with discipline in the unit. According to former members.

Is it possible that Bergdahl walked away from a lot of shit, and now that he still can’t speak, his former unit-mates are getting out in front of what might turn out to be a story about undisciplined and leaderless soldiers? Who potentially committed crimes?

OT. Hi @TPM. I’m a subscriber. And yet I still get subjected to autoplay ads. Glucerna. Nicotine, any time, any place, or whatever that nonsense is. It would be nice if, when you’re asking people to support you, that you also mention that even with support, autoplay ads are HERE TO STAY.
