Getting rid of McCrory would somewhat restore my faith in the citizens of North Carolina.
See, bad haircut’s not sitting quietly and, maybe planning a protest months from now when it’s hopeless…
So they want to get rid of their governor for his stances, but wanted to put into the white house Trump and a team of people who are as bad, if not worse, than their governor. Doesn’t make any sense.
It’s a mixed blessing. We didn’t pick up enough seats in the legislature to sustain any vetoes, so Cooper’s not really going to be able to accomplish much. Many of our statewide departments (Labor, Agriculture, Insurance, Public Instruction) were won by Republicans. There’s a few departments that report directly to the governor where he gets to appoint the leadership (SBI, Transportation) but it’s still going to be pretty bleak here for a while.
The silveriest lining is Mike Morgan ousting Bob Edmunds from the state Supreme Court. There’s a long backstory there, but there’s real hope that some of the more unconstitutional laws passed by our legislature will go down more quickly than before.
There’s not much about NC voters that makes sense. We seem to be inordinately proud of our ticket splitting abilities.
I would not be surprised if McCrory is setting up to rig the recount.
Don’t let that faith get restored too much – Republicans still have super majorities in the state legislature, which means they can override any vile legislation Cooper would veto.
And, no, HB2 isn’t going away. Hell, in a few years SCOTUS with a few Trump appointees will probably confirm it if any legal challenges move forward.
McCrory was also impacted by a local issue, a cover-up of polluted drinking water. This story got limited national coverage on PBS and NPR, but it was a bigger deal in NC. The situation affected people who might otherwise be Trump voters. I haven’t analyzed the vote in affected counties, that’s something TPM might want to undertake. If McCrory underperformed in affected counties that otherwise leaned Trump, this would indicate a factor working against McCrory in addition to the bathroom bill.
Or, shudder to think, make it the law of the land!
Beat me to it …I need a little more time to put the fix in .
I thought closing all those polling stations would do it
Perhaps it’s fitting that he reminds me so much of the warden at Shawshank prison. He had an interesting end to his career, too.
Yep! I voted for Mike Morgan specifically for that reason - so glad he won!
What does it matter? State elections are decided by who gets the most votes. “Concede” doesn’t exist in any constitution that I know of.
After Donald Trump and the Republicans highlighted the rigging of elections, I am very suspicious. I think the vote count and the voting machines (which are made by Diebold, a company that has an alt-right owners) could have been rigged.
Ned Flanders demonstrating how McCrory will ultimately leave the Governor’s mansion.
The majority of NC voters voted for the Republican values of intolerance, racism, misogyny, xenophobia, homophobia, antisemitism, sexism… So maybe a bathroom fettish was a bridge too far for the greedy, intolerant Republicans. I find no solace in that.
“McCrory’s campaign says it’s concerned about officials in Durham saying around 11 p.m. on Tuesday that they had yet to upload more than 90,000 early votes.”
Ha…Druham? Which went almost 76% to Obama in 2012? Yeah, those 90K votes are gonna work our peachy for you, champ.
He’s soooo going to sue on the basis of “voter fraud” etc.
It may be a pre-bullshit vs post-bullshit thing. In the case of McRory they listened to his pre-bullshit and voted him into the Governors mansion. But in 2016 the voters were in post-bullshit mode. They heard it all long ago and now knew his talk for the bullshit it is. He’s out. But Trump was in pre-bullshit mode. He hadn’t proved to be a bullshit artist yet so they voted him in. In 2020 if Trumps alive he’ll lose NC for sure.
Pat remains pathetic until the end. Good riddance from one that helped vote you out.
