Discussion: McCrory: I May Drop Statewide Recount If State Allows Durham County Recount

I love the modern day GOP.

Keep up the good work, boys and girls.

Hey, I have to live with this prick.

“the governor may drop his statewide recount request.”

How one wittle word can leave all of one’s options open.

McCrory should have had the legislature change the state constitution to conduct elections with an electoral college style process. That way Republicans could lose by 100,000 votes and still gain the Governorship, with the large metropolitan counties that vote Democrat counting for just as much as the sparsely populated rural counties that vote Republican. Maybe the entire nation should do that. White back country citizens could dictate winners of state elections for years to come, despite eventually constituting maybe a fourth of the populace. Ted Cruz should get on this.

Spalding, you’ll get nothing and like it!!

ETA: Is Governor-Elect Cooper trolling this asshole? If not, why doesn’t he? We need to fight dirty.

He is hoping he can throw out a bunch of Clinton votes in heavy Clinton county of Durham.

It’s not just that one little word, note also:

“if a recount in Durham County ‘provides the same results as earlier posted’,.”

No recount ever ends up exactly the same. All they need is for a few votes to change to say the original count is clearly not reliable, so…

Oh. He “may” drop his statewide recount request.

What a hero.

He’s using the Gore model.
At least we have decided this issue in the highest court of the land.

Don’t believe a word he says.

I think it would be a mistake to let him go after the Democratic county.
Give him his statewide recount - but include Presidential race and that Senate race, too.
Who knows what might turn up?

What a sore loser. He is the one who wants to steal the election.

He is the king of “may.” he said same thing to City of Charlotte to try to get them to repeal their LGBT ordinance… and then “as governor, we MAY repeal HB2.” In other words, he likely will not do anything of the kind.

Since Trump won NC by quite a bit, he is totally focused on himself. Certainly not the good of the state.

Hell, make him pay for a statewide recount. Deprive the gop of a few million they could otherwise use to suppress the vote

My recollection is that Gore asked for a partial recount, and the conclusion of a study done by news organizations after the election found that that tactic would have failed Gore, but a statewide recount would have shown he won.

She lost NC. By between 100 and 200K votes.

Thats always been the case.

He’s trying it because the fact that he’s fallen back another 2K as vote totals are certified indicates that he’d lose ground with a state wide recount. He is focusing on Durham County because argle bargle vote fraud black people blargh.

Among the many changes that Republicans made when they savaged North Carolina’s once exemplary voting laws was permitting any asshole to go to any precinct in his (and, of course, it’s always a “he”) county and challenge the qualifications of any voter. That triggers an instant hearing by the precinct captain where the voter has to prove his qualifications. It’s the fact that these asshole challenges were almost always lost, particularly in Durham County, an urbanized, heavily Democratic, county with a rural fringe that he’s basing his entire “vote fraud” claim upon.

The problem with silver linings is that you have to buy them, pound for pound, with gold. But seeing this raging Koch-puppet asshole lose a state Trump, for Christ’s sake, won is a welcome drop of saccharine in the bitter dregs. (Yeah, I mixed metaphors, but at least I did it in separate sentences.)

Except the highest court of the land said its anointment of Bush the Lesser was a one off and cannot be used as precedent. The one and only time the Supreme Court has issued a decision that overturns itself.
