Discussion for article #234074
McConnell’s weasel words are weaker than usual here.
Republicans don’t hate government – they just hate something they can’t do.
“We’ll figure out some way to do our jobs.”
Typical incompetent Teabagger.
I believe that Obama and the Dems are really enjoying that they can shove telephone poles up the asses of Boehner and McConnell and watch them squirm in agony from having to screw over their Teabagger base while being forced to support Obama. So go ahead, Turtle Boy. Advance a debt limit bill that isn’t clean and is full of your greatest policy wishes, and start sweating when Obama and the Dems refuse to advance it and nearly the entire country is ready to blame YOU for a calamitous shutdown that severely damages the economy. Go ahead, motherfuckers! I hope it turns out just as well for you as your attempt to tie the immigration EO to the DHS bill. Good times!
I guess the idea of having someone introduce a bill raising the debt ceiling to a specific number in the House, getting it put onto the floor regardless of the position of the a majority of the majority, passed by a simple majority vote, sent to the Senate where it is again speedily sent to the floor and passed by a simple majority vote and then sent to the President for his signature is too bizarre to be within his contemplation.
Hmmm. You have 8 days to do so. Given how few days Senators actually work, how can this be accomplished?
Seems like McConnell is playing the Teahadists at this point. Do nothing until the last minute, claim that you had to act, wash your hands and walk away.
For some reason this song popped into my head:
Sometimes I try to do things and it just doesn’t work out the way I wanted too
And I get real frustrated, and it’s like…
And I try hard to do it and take my time
And it just doesn’t work out the way I want it to
It’s like I concentrate on it real hard but it just doesn’t work out
And everything I do and everything I try, it never turns out
It’s like I need time to figure these things out
NC Steve: That’s how it used to work way back when people got elected to do the People’s work. These days, the People’s work takes a backseat to political expediency, often referred to as getting reelected.
The problem is lots of us in this country and around the world—I’ve got my hand up myself—can’t afford any more severe damage to the economy. I’ve had enough trouble holding on to my house and getting medical care since the last time. I think, and very much hope, the leadership understands how dangerous the debt limit is. But powerful nations have done catastrophic things before. I want to see the baggers go down, trust me, but not this way. I can’t afford it and I’m not alone in that.
Well…… you know they are just so gosh darn busy working hard on that back up health care plan in case SCOTUS blows apart ACA.
Is he supposed to get a medal for this? Raising the debt ceiling used to be a normal, uncontroversial act of governing. Now if Republicans manage to do it, they want praise?
I smell another hostage situation brewing.
Nothing like overstating the obvious. McConnell is the tail wagging the Dog.
Here’s not a newsflash, the debt limit will be raised and its because the nation is growing, just like a family having another baby creates bigger bills. The debt limit will be raised because its normal, typical, boring governmental business, not because anyone got teabagged. That method of leverage is past its viability.
The Democrats, despite the lack of faith by the faithful, have stymied the teabaggers and have left them nothing but the act of making themselves look ridiculous. The fear of a shutdown has joined the ranks of fluoride in our toothpaste and commies in the basement.
The tiresome teabaggings are just a passing joke at this point
I just finished watching the president’s speech and reading the transcript from the 50th anniversary of the Selma march. While the president doesn’t say specifically, Congress do your job, he did remind us in lofty terms that it is we the people who determine our destiny, and it would’ve done Turtle a world of good to have read and absorbed those words spoken yesterday. The Rs have an agenda and it has very little to do with the will of We The People. It is to advance a political party and one still living in another century at that.
Ted Cruz will insist on a rider that does away with child labor laws, or some such nonsense.
Yeah it’s not like debt ceiling increases don’t happen every year or anything.
Or that you’ve had months to prepare for it
Or hell, even given an extra week or so to “figure some way” to raise it.
Fuck, I can’t believe they were voted in as the majority party. And we have at least another TWO years of playing patty cake bullshit with these people
Maybe time for the Democrats to demand something in return for their votes to raise the debt ceiling.
I very much doubt a bill can pass the House without Dem support. Maybe all just a bluff in the end, but would be fun to see Boehner squirm in the meantime. The GOP has always played politics with this issue - time for some payback.
“It’s hard work.”
Mitchy is starting to look just like a Green Gumby.
