McConnell falling on his ass would not be a problem for me.
Nazgul Walks Tightrope To Keep Moderate Orcs In The Fold.
My preference would be to see McConnell forced to walk the plank.
It could happen.
These are all head fakes.
The tightrope McConnell is on is how close the investigation can be to a complete sham before the 3 âmoderatesâ squeal.
If Mitch McConnell is going to walk a tightrope, please let it be without a net and over an Olympic-sized swimming pool filled with broken glass and discarded hypodermic needles.
Bob Corker is retiring. He has on occasion bucked both Trump and his GOP peers in the Senate on various issues. Why isnât he one of the Senators needing kept in line on the eventual confirmation vote? It would seem Kavanaughâs problems are of the sort that would trouble Corker and have him truly questioning the wisdom of placing him on the court. What gives?
Are they? I think Corkerâs bag is Nato and foreign policy, with maybe a little indignation about corruption thatâs not his own. Defending fratboys, however, I think heâd be all in on.
Does he really strike you as the sort of person that would be unconcerned about confirming an angry, drunken misogynist with an apparent propensity for lying to a lifetime appointment to SCOTUS?
Of course that begs the question why the hell anyone would be unconcerned about the same character traits and behaviors.
Have found that the most revealing news takes days to hit the US media.?As a example
Brettâs attempts to silence acussersâŚmitch has a big problem.
All this prevaricating from Flake, Collins, Murkowski, et al is just for show. Mitch should just plow ahead with the vote. No one is deserting the party line on this one. And screw the blowback and bad feelings, the nation has a short memory. Trump can start another war somewhere or have someone assassinated and Kavanaughâs confirmation will soon enough be a dim memory. Anyone it pisses off wasnât casting votes for the GOP in any races anyway. Itâs all about the base, and there could be video of Kavanaugh biting the heads off chickens and they wouldnât care.
McConnell doesnât have the votes. He wonât get them this week either.
He either forces his caucus to get on the record and put them all in a big hole for 2018 and 2020 or some combination of folks (Senators and outside groups who support GOP Senators like the Koch Bros or Adelson types) call up Kavanaugh and tell him itâs over.
This isnât complicated at this point.
Disagree. If he had the votes, he wouldâve voted. He doesnât have the votes. These are not votes that Collins and Murkowski can take and be ok back home. Thereâs no path for Collins in Maine if she votes âyesâ.
I think Iâd prefer a face plant myself.
Unfortunately, yes? The subsets 1) Contemporary GOP and 2) âangry, drunken misogynist with an apparent propensity for lyingâ show great overlap, Iâm afraid, and thatâs the party that heâs been working his whole career. Iâm not sure in itself any amount of toxic masculinity is disqualifying with this crew. Theyâd need a video tape of an assault before theyâd recognize it as a problem.
A political/news editor from WaPo on Lawrence OâDonnellâs show last night commented that it isnât just these three; there are other GOPers (she did no say who) having a problem with this, but these three suck up all the oxygen.
hold a procedural vote on Friday and hold the ultimate confirmation vote on Sunday
Channeling Nancy Pelosi, McConnell tells his caucus they have to confirm Kavanaugh to see whatâs in the FBI report.
