Discussion: McConnell, Schumer Unveil Senate Deal To Fund Government

Your base is so disgusted by you that you’re going to get shellacked not only in the red states in November but in the purple ones, just like in Nov. 2916.

You’re beating a dead horse here, friend. The Dems will never stand up and do something.

Oh, FFS… Given how Hair Trumpenfuhrer runs his businesses, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised by how he runs the Executive Branch. :smirk:

The content is the lives of 800,000 people who you want to throw under the bus to forge a crappy scandalous deal. It’s your opportunism that’s contentless. Oh, and democracies require oppositions, not mindless rubber stamps.

We know – “progressives” like to cut their nose to spite their faces. That is why we have Trump instead of Clinton. That is why Democrats’ failure to make Republican majority to protect dreamers is the reason to let Republicans shellack Democrats in November.

Disclaimer: “progressives” is in quote marks because some progressives are rational and I generally support those.

So if the Dems are worthless – go ahead and vote Republican in November. Or even stay home. It will give you an ample opportunity to continue complaining about spineless Dems.

Now, I’m going to suggest something - and I know this is going to sound crazy, but stick with me here - how about both houses get together and pass the laws that the American people want? You know, things like gun control, DACA protections, permanent funding for kids who need medical care, allowing immigrant families to remain families, etc. People say there is no difference between R’s and D’s, but it seems I continually see D’s striving to legislate for all Americans and R’s legislating for the rich.

Good to see that Pelosi is standing up for the Dreamers. Literally. Has been on her feet for 7 hours.

As regards the Schumer deal, I’m too exhausted to comment. Well, maybe not. Schumer should have made it a precondition of any deal that (1) Congress legislate to get first approval for first use of nukes; and (2) a fully funded plan of action be agreed to protect the US electoral machinery and social media from Russian aggression. That would frame any government shutdown as a national security emergency with Ds branded as the national security party. Which would in turn force more concessions out of the Republicans.

But do remember, if you don’t vote you lose griping rights.

Has anyone seen mention of funding the Wall in this ‘deal’ ?

Yeah, this budget sounds like full steam ahead with a stimulative fiscal policy when unemployment is at very low levels.

I’m sure the GOP will try to do that, but it isn’t like they won’t be calling us “tax and spend” anyway. Also, I think their complaints about deficits will ring as hollow as their claims to be the party of morality.

My view is that the Dems expect that there will be a hullabaloo about the deficit once the numbers start coming in and establish the trend, so they want to add non-defense spending in advance of any real pressure to cut.

What the Dems didn’t want was headlines saying that we shut the government down over immigrants. DACA still appears to have good public support, so the Dems can probably get a DACA bill through the Senate and put pressure on Ryan to pass a bipartisan DACA bill over the objections of the hardliners racist pricks in the House GOP.

We give up some leverage by separating it from the spending bill, but the GOP also loses leverage to push through a really ugly immigration bill by attaching it to a bill that keeps the government open.

I haven’t seen any details, but would be very surprised if Schemer agrees to any wall money that doesn’t offer Dems something on immigration. Trumpp burned that bridge.

Pelosi was on the House floor for eight hours, and she didn’t read Green Eggs and Ham. She spoke in opposition to the funding because it didn’t include DACA.

Thanks for sharing. Your gloom and doom is underwhelming.

Maybe a bit OT – on the house side, Nancy said she wouldn’t support this bill - and broke a record explaining why. ;O)

In an nutshell she wants Ryan to offer the same promise McConnell has to take up dreamer cause —

You beat me to it…!

It’s donaldtrump’s goddamn fault we’re having a discussion about the fate of Dreamers. Take your gripes to him, not to Democrats who are trying to work around the fucking crisis he created to purposely cause terrible disruption and is reveling in.

@katex Don’t expect an answer but it’s got all the earmarks especially the “identity politics” nonsense and the hit and run approach to commenting…

encountered this same poster in a different thread with the same borderline English and unusual mindset. ;o) Ignoring trolls is best medicine right?
LOL = Edited to correct my own bad English.

Wouldn’t it be brilliant if they could leave the wall nonsense behind…AND did I read that tentatively the ‘spending caps’ are lifted? Are the spending caps the sequestration? Wasn’t that the avenue that Ryan was planning to use so he could attack the Social safety net… I’m getting ahead of myself I think.
