Comment section prediction: lots of screaming.
How close is this to the house bill?
Followed directly by people insisting the Dems didnât really cave, itâs all part of a master plan and people who think they caved are unrealistic poopoo heads who donât know how politics really works.
âmany hardline House conservatives arenât happy with how much the deal spends, or about the longer-term debt ceiling increase.â
And they are, of course, the same walking talking malignant government tumors who gleefully voted to eviscerate the income stream a month ago.
Absence of anything DACA seems to shoot down that theory. My two cents.
And another White House staffer bids adieu.
Effing scumbag. Only the worst people.
Great googily-moogily.
I was in the âDems still have DACA leverageâ camp last time they caved. Not any more. PROTECT DREAMERS YOU COWARDS!!!
The piece refers to ââŚraising the debt limit for months.â But also implies that it is a long-term limit increase. This is confusing, and bad reporting. How many months, exactly? And if it is not known, then say that.
Iâm not particularly happy about that, either. Massive increases in government debt during good economic times is just insane.
And yes, this is largely the fault of that horrible Republican tax bill, but the GOP will use this to tar the Democrats as the âtax and spend party,â regardless. So, politically, it seems insane for the Dems.
And finally, the Democrats caved on DACA, which was the big issue in the first place. I understand the problem, given the people theyâre dealing with. But donât the Democrats understand anything about the effect of enthusiasm in elections, even after 2016?
It always seems like the Democratic Party goes with âweâre not as bad as they are,â which isnât exactly a rallying cry most people can get behind.
A good compromise leaves everybody mad.
Anybody who thought
- Democrats would get everything that is important to Democrats, and that
- Republicans would get nothing important to Republicans, while
- Republicans control the House, the Senate, and the Presidency
was engaging in some seriously magical House Freedom Caucus-esque thinking.
It sucks, but those are the salient facts.
The media commentary on this is confusing. Some are going with the fact that this is a done deal - however Nancy Pelosi stood on the House floor and said she doesnât support it because it doesnât deal with DACA. Other pundits are labeling this as a âmiraculous achievementâ for the administration and McConnell/Schumer. I think we need more details and clearer heads before we can assess this.
You will notice that this fix will take us beyond the next election. That is important for Republicans. It also blows up the deficit by spending a lot of money on both military and domestic programs. That is important for both Democrats and Republicans. It might mean the bond market returns sooner than later so 401 K plans might be able to move out of stocks and into long term Treasuries sooner than anticipated. There are a lot of moving parts to this plan. It sort of reflects some real thought on the part of Senate leadership.
Real thought is alien to most Republican house members so this plan probably is DOA in the house.
DACA has become a weapon used by Trump as well as the Wall this will take those weapons from him. It will possibly take Trump out of the equation for the GOP. Sideline the turd. Let him veto the damn thing and letâs see what happens.
This is a pretty good budget deal, and when you consider that we have total GOP control over the government itâs an even better budget deal. $63 billion for non-defense spending, $22 billion in health care spending, $7 billion for community health centers, several billions in disaster relief. The Republicans wanted their defense bump so badly that they gave a lot away on the non-defense side to get this deal. That was the leverage the Dems really employed. If you are absolutely adamant that there should be no budget deal until the DREAM Act is passed, you obviously wonât be happy and I can completely understand that. But thereâs still a lot of good in this, and itâs funding that will help a lot of people.
It also provides funding to battle the opioid addiction crisis and for natural disaster recovery,
Because Trump and the GOP have been so good at those two issues over the past year.
Trump declared an opioids emergency. Then nothing changed.
FEMA Contract Called for 30 Million Meals for Puerto Ricans. 50,000 Were Delivered.
About 400 feet, Iâd say.
Schumer never met a cave he didnât love. Heâs not even going to get close to anything that looks like a stand against this administration.
Pathetic.
