McConnell is lobbying to replace the guy accused of preying on children with a guy facing multiple perjury counts for lying to Congress, and has a high percentage chance of being named in a Mueller indictment in coming months.
The interesting part to me is, how strongly McConnell is lobbying for Sessions, the sitting AG. At the very least, this makes is crystal clear that the WH considers Sessions completely expendable. They are talking about…with McConnell, a man they have an ongoing feud…firing him so he can be run as a write in candidate, which is a long shot at best.
Sessions isn’t just being thrown under the bus. He is being tied to the undercarriage while the whole bus is being driven over a cliff.
Ooooooooh, an ethics probe!! I bet Roy Moore will lose sleep over that possibility. I guess after he’s seated the Senate will have to limit his Senate gym hours and give him one less hook in the cloak room. And bring donuts EVERY Friday. That’ll teach him!
Sessions would be a shoo-in as a write-in. They love them some Jefferson Beauregard in Bama.

I am not so sure, even before we put the assumption that Sessions is fired (his name put in a bad news cycle) or resigns (still not a good news cycle).
Just weeks to go and they are circulating at least two names…Sessions and Strange. What are the chances that they BOTH receive write in votes on 12/12? Oh…and is highly unlikely either will run, making it all the more difficult when they finally do start circulating an actual write in candidate’s name.
They are splitting up an already split up GOP base even further.

Even Hannity appears to have turned on him. I predict that Moore will drop out by the end of this week. He’s lost all legitimate support and his campaign is already dead.

McConnell is SO bluffing. The day a Republican subjects another Republican to an ethics probe will be the day pigs grow wings and fly south for the winter.
Unfortunately Moore’s badly timed revelation as a child molester is a threat to McConnell’s majority in the midterms. Fortunately Moore can serve as a sacrifice to the pretense of morality. That covers the rest of the scoundrels for a while. Mitch also earns double-plus-good bonus points for finessing the bigot Sessions into the Senate.
Moore could shoot a kid on Fifth Avenue in broad daylight in front of witnesses and get seated at least long enough to vote on the tax bill.
They already have Strange on board for that vote, assuming they get it to the floor before Christmas, as they keep boasting they will do.
This is not about ethics. It is about power and control of the party. It is a tug of war between Mitch McConnell and Steve Bannon.
Things I learned last night on Maddow is that Packwood was investigated by an ethic panel for 33 months. The report they released was 10,000 pages. The head of the panel was McConnell. The sticking point is can the Senate refuse to seat a duly elected member of the Senate if the actions that candidate did was when he wasn’t working as a US Senator?
