Every time McConnell steps out of the shadows to make a firm statement I’m pretty sure it annoys the heck out of him. So, at least there’s that.

Unlike Trump McConnell has a pretty good sense of what the country will tolerate and what would lead to a popular revolt not seen since the Revolutionary War.
I do not think country is aware of this finer point or cares about it. Turtle is doing it only to block the nonsense laws that comes from Republicans in the House. 60% threshold guarantees FreedomCaucus crap will never pass in the Senate. It helps Republicans.

Exactly, McConnell doesn’t give a damn what America will or will not tolerate. Mitch cares about power and only power. Be it next year or 2020, he knows there’s no way his caucus can go into a primary or a general election having been forced to vote on the crazy from the House. And it’s not just crazy from the House, it’s also all the batshit crazy that emanates from the Conservative Entertainment Complex that their voters would be demanding Congress take up. They need the freedom to be able to vote for or against something and have it fail, so they can then blame Democrats.
Yup. Also, Mulvaney deflecting to the Senate ignores the reality - of which, as a former Member, he is acutely aware - that House R’s, as long as they’ve been in power, have never been able to cobble the votes to keep the lights turned and the government funded without significant House Democratic backstopping.
Of course, I do suppose it would be impolite for the MSM to point that out to Mr. Mulvaney, or the Twittiot…
