Discussion: McConnell Promises Tax Overhaul Is Coming Next Spring

Hopefully, Americans are prepared for the long recession that begins in the second half of 2017.

You’ve had years to come up with a plan[s] (Both health care and taxes) and you’re putting it off further down the road. That tells me you have nothing.

It’s not taxes that make it ‘difficult’ for corporations to stay here, it’s that pesky democracy thing where Americans actually have a legal right to demand that corporations not treat them as slaves. Eliminate that entire pesky democracy thing and multinational corporations will suddenly be very interested in hiring Americans again.

Also, as is always the case with these guys, “tax reform” is just their way of saying “wealth transfer.”

Somewhere in here they gotta trash the ACA and Medicare and Social Security to pay for at least a bit of the monstrous tax cuts coming for rich people.

Their indications that they plan to use reconciliation is effectively an announcement that they have no interest in even attempting to work with the Democrats in any way.

It’s worse than that. The payroll taxes used to fund medicare and social security will be used to finance a big tax cut for rich folks. The middle class will literally be earning money to pay the rich.

McConnell said that the single biggest reasons jobs move overseas is that the U.S. tax structure “makes it very difficult in many instances to stay here.”

Bullshit! The company that makes Ivanka’s shoes in China is moving to Ethiopia because they can hire 5 Ethiopians for the price of one worker in China. Labor costs are the main reason they move. Link: Ivanka Trump Chinese shoe factory is now moving to Africa | Daily Mail Online

I wonder, will Ivanka have to pay a tariff of 35%-45% for offshoring jobs?

From The Reformed Broker:

"America’s Massive Policy Error,” said the CIO. “That’s the title of the book someone will write in ten years about what’s happening today.” Never in economic history has a government implemented a fiscal stimulus of this size at full employment. “The Trump team and economic elites believe that anemic corporate capital expenditure is the root cause of today’s lackluster growth.” It’s not that simple. If credit to first-time homebuyers hadn’t been cut off post-2008, and state and local governments had spent as generously as they had after every other crisis, this recovery would have been like all others. “People think that if only we cut taxes, kill Obamacare, and build some bridges, then American CEOs will start spending. That’s nonsense.”

Aging demographics, slowing population growth, and massive economy-wide debts have left CEOs unenthusiastic about expanding productive capacity. “You make the most money in macro investing when there are policy errors and this will be the biggest one in 50yrs. These guys are going to crash the economy.” But not yet.

According to Pew survey, roughly half of Americans have NO idea what is coming and that percentage is even higher among Trump supporters.

Can’t wait to hear what they have to say when the hammer falls. Cutting health care, cutting unemployment compensation, food stamps, gutting wage equality, decent minimum wage, overtime, Social Security, Medicare. They MIGHT get a modest tax cut. It will be swept away when the true costs come due.

Exactly what GOPs did after GWB won in 2000 and we saw in 2008 where that leads. Wealth/retirement savings/equity etc. wasn’t lost in 2008. There was a massive transfer. Here we go again.

So mcconnell is making trump out to be a liar. I was expecting my tax cut on January 20, just as trump promised . . . . “on day one, believe me, believe me”.

debt financed tax cuts and corporate welfare that benefits the 1% + a nice tax cut to the rich with the repeal of ACA…Next theyll tell you that their going to balance the budget with the revenue from all this…

McConnell also voiced skepticism that a multi-trillion dollar infrastructure bill was a good idea or use of the GOP’s time and resources, which could be a departure from Trump who has said infrastructure is a top priority.

I'd hate to be deprived of Wolf Blitzer breathlessly breaking in to tell me about the latest bridge collapse.

I wonder what/who they’ll blame the unemployment rate going up on?

Or will that just be pushed as “fake news” and, no worries, there really are thousands more jobs around - you just can’t see all of them…

Oh, he’s so cute. He actually thinks the Repubs will be in power, come Spring.

…and here we go. NO infrastructure, lower your taxes. Wink, wink, peeps that means no services. No health care, no education, zippo. BUT we will give big breaks to the 1% because THEY CREATE JOBS…where oh where have I heard this before???

This actually made me laugh out loud. Save for more racism, sexism, and general xenophobia and, of course, deporting a bunch of people, the Pepe administration is going to literally give his voters the exact opposite of what he promised. We’re going to get more war, more tax cuts for the wealthy, Obamacare won’t be repealed or replaced, but Medicare and Social Security will be cut/changed. All that making America great again by building things and infrastructure improvement ain’t happening. That’s why I think Pepe is going to serve four years and 2020 will be good for Democrats. I think those Pepe voters are going to sliver back under the rocks they came out of once they realize he can’t make America white again and none of the other things he promised will come to fruition.

The real unemployment rate, or the actual unemployment rate? Oh, silly me, what am I thinking. You’ll not hear a damn word about the “real unemployment rate” again until a Democrat becomes president.
