While I agree that all of it lowers the civil discourse to an unmanageable and unproductive place, I would caution against making equivalencies here. One person forcefully expressing their ire in a restaurant (however uncivil that is) is not remotely the same as an angry mob chasing a leading representative into a locked building, and raging at the doors. IT was the cries of âWitch!!â that really spooked me. As if that would justify a lynching or summary burning.
Mob mentality is a very dangerous thing. Especially in times as tribal as ours have become.
Pelosi was attacked by a mob of right wingers carrying signs, security was holding back those protestors, screaming she was a fucking communist, and it was not long after moron called Democrats an angry mob. McConnell was confronted by other customers as he sat in a restaurant and a security detail wasnât in place. In fact it looks like Mitch and Elaine stayed to finish their meal.
What each of these persons experienced was very different.
