Discussion for article #234249
Mitch’d love to get you on a Slow Boat to China
All to himself alone.
A twist in the rudder
And a rip in the sail
Drifting and dreaming
Throw the compass over the rail.
Even on a bill everyone favors, Republican’ts are unable to refrain from attaching odious riders. Way to show us how to govern, 'pubs.
Oh, trafficking is already illegal. What does this bill do to enhance the ability to stop it? Just curious, as the article is mute on this point.
Republicans have been claiming that the anti-abortion provision has been in the bill since day one. It probably has been, but the Republicans wrote it in reappearing ink.
Sorry, Pubbies, but wasn’t there some old saying about the shoe being on the other foot or something like that?
I agree that the language doesn’t belong in the bill.
But if the language has been in there for 2 months, then shame on the Democrats for not noticing it until now. They (and/or their staffs) should be reading the bills they are considering, not just the cliff notes version.
And John McCain just signs letters because they look good … come on, until the Republicans actually prove that the language was indeed in the bill, I don’t believe them one whit.
Why is McConnell trying to kill this bill with the ol’ midnight poison pill play? Which of the oligarchs who own the GOP are in the human trafficking business?
Granted, it could just be a matter of being customers rather than trafficker . . .
In this day and electronic age when everything is date and time stamped can’t someone get to the bottom of this he said she said finger pointing BS!
what did the initial draft of the bill say about the matter? If the dems missed it then say so and now it has been caught. If the repubs were being tricky then that should become trnsparent. Is there an expert who can help us J. Q. Publics understand, please
Good on the Dems for standing together and rejecting this bill despite the fact that it is important legislation. It’s equally important that the Dems not engage in the Rethugs idea of “legislation by shell game.” Right now, it’s the Rethugs that need to show they can get bills passed as a majority. So far, they are 0 for 0 and it’s only the first 2 months.
Somebody clue me in here: why not allow the vote? Can’t the minority still fillibuster the bill if a single GOP senator objects to stripping it out? I’m sure I’m missing something.
How many times are you going to walk into the same propeller?
There is bipartisan consigns on the underlying bill. Pass it and show you can be a responsible adult.
Clean bill or pound sand up your ass McConnell.
Not holding a vote is the filibuster.
Does it matter?
It was caught and needs to be stripped out.
Ain’t payback a bit*h! Keep it up, Dems!
This is where the crack TPM crew can bring some light to this.
How about tracking the bill’s language and determining who is telling the
truth. Given the GOP’s track record, my guess would be that the Dems have a team
poring through every line of legislation sent to the floor for votes just to make sure
stuff like this doesn’t get snuck through. In this climate, if they are NOT doing so,
they are idiots.
So did the Goopers really have this language out in public view or at least the view of
staff from both sides of the aisle two months ahead of a vote?
Show us the facts and beat the MSM at actual reporting.
Surely you’re not suggesting there might be a bit of substance in this excellent process story?
I used to have friends who worked in the airline business. Some of those planes had propellers. You would not believe the amount of time and care (and the amount of TIMES this care was ignored, to someone’s peril) placed on “propeller safety”.
As perfect a metaphor for the Republican Party (which may have already arrived at the status of being the number one enemy of the United States) as any. How I wish the deficiencies of their voters included not being able to shuffle up to the voting booth and robotically pull the “R” lever.
Would not surprise me if the Senate still operates in an archaic way for producing documents
If memory serves that’s how the what was it “Coconut Grove” road deal with Don Young got inserted…In that case it had passed both the House and the Senate THEN the line got inserted. TPM Muckraker followed it rather well
Not much of an offer: “we offer to hold a vote we know we will win.”
