Finally found Mitch I see.
“Prestigious Cabinet Position”, another time, another place but not now. Go for the pathetic Junior Senator and we all hope you lose.
Dear Mike:
Just a heads up. Your boss is toast – and I have a great opportunity for you. Think about it.
Mitch
Go for it… it will be fun watching all the Trumpers loose in 2020.
I must assume that McConnell wants the best for Pompeo and not only wants to block Kobach. But Mitch is confused, we’re not in India (and other places) where politicians and gangsters run for legislature seats just because MPs get immunity from prosecution.
When you’re on the Titanic and a lifeboat pulls alongside, you don’t decide to stay on board because it is so much more luxurious.
“Where’s Mitch?” is being overtaken with “Where ISN’T Mitch?”
The obvious explanation - the poor man’s Occam’s Razor - is that McConnell is readying one gigantic bloody mother of a November 2020 election, including by the following:
PUZZLE THE FIRST: The answer to Wednesday’s “Where’s Mitch”? crockweird puzzle was Sitting down with the Veep discussing the obvious: that since the preznit seems headed inexorably towards impeachment or worse, Pence would thereby become McConnell’s new version of the Maginot Line. That is, it would vital to the interests of the Republican party that Pence stay as far TF away from Trump as possible now, because there’s a material risk of a President Pelosi late this year or sometime next year, and there’s NFW McConnell wants the GOP going into the next presidential election cycle with a Democrat in the White House and no fall guy for the coming blood bath.
Among the panics McConnell would be seeking to avoid is the American Peeps seeing a Super Competent Woman in the White House, because that would do incalculable damage to the GOP talking point that girls can’t do commander in chief. If that scale gets tipped, then the DNC isn’t years out in front of the RNC in the way of viable female potential preznit nominees, it’s decades ahead on that front.
And the other source of concern / panic? Well, what if Pence were to be forced out with Trump’s exit, leaving Pelosi as caretaker preznit until late January, 2021, then all of sudden the potential the GOP has for being able to replace RBG and cement their SCOTUS majority for decades to come goes completely to waste.
PUZZLE THE SECOND: The answer to Thursday’s “Where’s Mitch?” daily crockweird puzzle is that, to the extent the Pompeo holds any future value at all the GOP, he’s got to Get Out! out of the cabinet ASAP or at least do something about as dramatic as that to preserve his credibility for what All Of A Sudden looks awfully like a Real Senate Battle in about as solid a red state as there’s been for many years. Pompeo sitting around State (and he really sits AROUND State) does neither him nor the Republican party in its coming dire need any good at all, and McConnell simply doesn’t have a better candidate in mind for that bloody Senate battle.
In the larger sense, McConnell must be thinking along the lines of
the White House being effectively as good as lost right now, and
that it’s overwhelmingly likely that the House is a lost cause to the GOP at least thru to November 2022,
thus the GOP needs the biggest mothering firewall they can garner to protect their massive gains in the federal courts that came about from McConnell’s gambits during the last year of Obama’s second term and the Trump Putin win in November 2016.
Look forward to the NEXT crockweird puzzle in the “Where’s Mitch?” series!
Look at the other names on McConnell’s list.
Other names that have surfaced as GOP possibilities include former Kansas secretary of state Kris Kobach, a Trump ally who was defeated in the race for governor last year; Rep. Roger Marshall; former governor Jeff Colyer, whom Kobach defeated in the gubernatorial primary; and American Conservative Union Chairman Matt Schlapp.
Schlapp was born in Wichita. Wouldn’t he be a prize-winning prick, er, pick.
That’s how he thinks.
McConnell undoubtedly thinks Pompeo would be a stronger candidate than Kobach in a state that is showing some signs of becoming a swing state. As to Pence, I doubt there’s much concern about him being forced to resign or getting impeached. McConnell may be having Pence convey information or advice to Trump. In any event, I think it’s highly doubtful that Pence will be the GOP nominee in 2020 if Trump isn’t running for re-election. I don’t see him as anyone’s favorite in the Party with the possible exception of the white evangelicals. I see Rubio as their most likely candidate, with Cotton, Thune, Cornyn and maybe some others on the short list.
Mitch better worry about saving his own ass, because the ads for his opponent in 2020 just write themselves.
Mitch McConnell isn’t the Senior Senator from Kentucky, he’s the Senator from Trump Tower…
Is there a preposition missing in this sentence?
… McConnell is readying for one gigantic bloody mother …
Just what the Senate needs, another arrogant prick.
Pompeo can run for the senior senator from Kansas and his mini-me can run for the junior senator from Kansas. Wouldn’t that be cute?
Love your post!
@stradivarius50t3 — there are several Ditch Mitch funds being set up to fund his Dem opponent, whoever it may be. Same with Susan Collins, what ch came after her vote to approve that pig Kavanaugh
