Except it’s not the Democrats that were weeping and gnashing their teeth about the debt ceiling or for that matter calling it such a ‘great deal’. That would be YOUR party Mitch. To turn around and ‘pretend’ that anyone thought otherwise is more…dare I say it?..fake news.
Barring some shenanigans DACA is going to reach put up or shut up stage in early March, Trump’s self imposed six month deadline to Congress. That’s eight months before the vote. Some predict the GOP is loathe to watch a rolling wave of weekly deportations hit the nightly news as permits to work, attend school and ultimately even stay in the country expire. Me, my money is on Congressional inaction, or some lame legislation that feigns addressing the issue but still subjects DACA immigrants to essentially the same torture and pain as ending the program altogether would accomplish. At that point Trump either backtracks or lets the nightly news berate the mean GOP for months on end leading to the midterms. Trump is too disengaged and obtuse to care or understand the damage that will do, so count on DACA dying a loud, agonizing death as GOP candidates gnash their teeth and cry about Obama starting the whole mess.
Is he saying the treasury can take money from one program to pay for another program? If this is the case who knows where we will be by the time the next discussion happens.
“Since I was in charge of drafting the debt ceiling provision that we inserted into the flood bill we likely — almost certainly — are not going to have another debt ceiling discussion until well into 2018,”
Who gives a shit when they have to raise it again? Ds don’t like raising it, they just like keeping the programs it funds, going.
GOP won’t be able to move money around because demands for gov’t spending are only increasing in the wake of 2 massive hurricanes which are going to damage economic growth. They will need to do additional appropriations, because many of the worst hit areas are GOP states or GOP regions within such states. We still don’t really know how bad it is in FL, and Houston is a mess. After September concludes, we will officially be in the 2018 election cycle and the demands from within Mitch’s own caucus will add to Dem leverage…So Fuck You Mitch. Your time is up.
Like we don’t all know which party it is that takes the debt ceiling hostage. If GOPs act in December like they are now,who does the Turtle expect Pres. Trump to look to?
While I agree that he has done more damage than good, I would have to say that he would have to take a back seat to Newt Gingrich. Newt basically started the GOPers down the path they are on now and made obstructionism an art and made working in a bipartisan manner a crime for them.
That’s an excellent point. I remember Obama instructing his Treasury Secretary to do the exact same thing every time Republicans took the debt ceiling hostage. No legislation was needed at that time nor is it needed now. There’s something really quite sad and pathetic about McConnell trying to score a W here when it was clearly an L.
Pbbt, like he hasn’t been thinking of that every second of every day, considering she emasculates him by just existing.
Anyway, McConnell might as well have been saying this while choking back white hot tears. You’ve fucked up, Mitch, your legislative victories are non-existent and you’re now attached to a failed presidency. Have fun being written into history as a shmuck
