They are indeed entitlements—because those who pay into the programs are entitled to benefit from them.
Republicans have tried with all their might to make entitlements into a dirty word.

I’ll be surprised if McConnell gives in and does anything to the filibuster rules.
He knows full well that the Senate could very easily change hands next year, and he would be loathe to eliminate the mechanism that allowed him to hamstring Obama’s agenda for four years.
But the TP crazies may force the issue, because they cannot conceive of being the party out of power in Congress.

Which is why they are entitlements and not welfare - because the beneficiaries, having earned those benefits, are entitled to them. Republicans may have managed to make entitlements a pejorative word of accusation, but they haven’t actually managed to change its meaning. Yet.

If it were a Kapur article, it wouldn’t be based on something actually happening and it wouldn’t be attributed to anyone.
Personally, I say let them go for it. Obama still holds the power of the pen, and if they losen the filibuster rules now, they have to live with them as the minority when they lose the Senate in '16.

Agreed. There have been a few times when I’ve thought Dems should just let the damn bill get to Obama’s desk so that he can do a press conference in which he calls attention to the bill’s destructiveness as he vetoes it. Too much of the GOP’s legislative recklessness never sees the light of day. Average people never even know about most of the disastrous laws the GOP would like to visit upon their lives. If they did, more folks might be motivated to vote.

McConnell is many things but stupid is not one of them. Getting rid of the filibuster without controlling the house, the senate and the president would be stupid.
Therefore the turtle will slowly study the issue to make it look like he is doing something. Who knows, in the unlikely event the GOP wins the presidency in 2016 McConnell might do something but not before.

It is called a prediction. My evidence is based on the fact that, except for Trump, she has the highest unfavorables of any candidate.
In the current RCP poll of averages she trails Carson by 5.6%, to include today’s poll where she trails him by 11%.
She trails Fiorina, Rubio and is a toss-up against Bush.
The only candidate she beats is Trump.
It is the idiots on the left who think Hillary is still this juggernaut that makes the GOP tremble with fear.
The GOP would love nothing more than Hillary as your nominee.
You can tell by the way they’ve been trying to torpedo her for the last nine or so years.

Too little too late. The conservatives in the Republican party will have Mitch McConnell out of work soon. Ted Cruz has been working with the Koch brothers and other like-minded conservatives on this behind the scenes for a while. Once the House Speaker situation resolves, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Mike Lee, Rand Paul and the other conservatives will show Mitch McConnell the door.
