Discussion: McConnell Backs Rand Paul As 2016 Candidate, Compares Him To Henry Clay

Discussion for article #225919

If Rand “Squirrel Head” Paul wants to run for president three times, only to lose each time and waste incredible amounts of wing-nut money – fine by me; fine by me.

"If he chose to run, he would be the most creditable candidate for president since Henry Clay," McConnell said, according to the Huffington Post.

Henry Clay, known for brokering multiple compromises during his time representing Kentucky in Congress, ran for president three times— in 1824, 1832, and 1844 — but never won.

Was this supposed to be a compliment?

From McTurtle, it probably was.

Now that Beavis is gone, where else is Randy going to go?

McConnell seems to be fond of losers, apparently

I am not so sure this should be headlined as a compliment. Not only did Henry Clay lose 3 times, but McConnell is simultaneously discrediting all of the previous Republican candidates. Is this just a bungled comment or another message?

Hey, Mitch, when you are finished reading the new serialized Fitzgerald in Collier’s while drinking your sarsaparilla at the lunch counter of that five and dime, how about comparing Paul to someone to whom anyone under 100 can relate?

Does this mean Booker will follow suit?

“Senator Paul, I despise your masquerade, the dishonest way you pose yourself. You and your whole fucking family.”

At first I was like, who? and then I was like that’s no way to return a favor, and then I remembered the favor.

Uhh. A pretty sure bet that li’l Rand would have to look up “creditable.”
Mitch will be rid of him altogether when KY fails to allow squirrels to keep their Senate seats if they run for potus.

Oh, nice…

“We’re both part of the same hypocrisy, Senator McConnell…but never think it applies to my family.”

Quite the endorsement: Here is a great guy - he is just like the guy who failed to be POTUS a mere 3 times! Woot Woot!

Well, Paul’s endorsement of McConnell didn’t sound terribly enthusiastic, either.

“He asked me when there was nobody else in the race. And I said yes.”
