Discussion: McCarthy's In-Laws' Made Millions Off 'Dubious' Native American Heritage Claim

The Hill is also running with this. The story has legs, and has sent a ripple through the Indian Wells Valley, which a) is part of CA-23, Kevin’s district, and b) the site of most contract performance. I would say this is worse than the Roy Moore thing.

“We saw it as an avenue to use,” Wages told the Times…

It is amazing how often these days a false accusation by partisan Republicans against a Democrat turns out, while totally false, to be something some Republican is actually guilty of.

In this case, I can’t help but think of Trump’s repeated false charge against Elizabeth Warren, who never sought or received any advantage because of her small amount of Native American ancestry. Who would claim to be Native American just to sneak some benefit intended for Native Americans? Obviously not anybody with respect for Native Americans… Enter Kevin McCarthy’s family, stage right, with their fake tribal affiliation…

I await the forthcoming apology from assorted and variegated Republicans to Elizabeth Warren any time now.

You think the only people who are people
Are the people who look and think like you
But if you walk the footsteps of a stranger
You’ll learn things you never knew, you never knew

“subjected to racial or ethnic prejudice or cultural bias, or have suffered the effects of discrimination, because of my identity.”

What, more downtrodden white guys?

“We saw it as an avenue to use,” Wages told the Times of his claim of Native American heritage. He said that a cousin told him in 1998 that his “paternal great-grandmother” was of Cherokee descent.

Well, of course you did.

Wages, the Times said, acknowledged not participating in Cherokee culture growing up. But he has claimed in state filings, under penalty of perjury, that he had been “subjected to racial or ethnic prejudice or cultural bias, or have suffered the effects of discrimination, because of my identity.”

Probably due to his “red skin” and penchant for wearing native dress.

Fun Fact: The Cherokee Nation(s), like every other recognized tribe, have excellent records going back quite a way, some to the early 1800s, when their “nations” were established.

Like you, I’m surprised Wages — can you pick a better name? — didn’t show up on their rolls.

Bonus Fun Fact: I’m related to Pocahontas and, thus, Chief Powhatan. True story.

Better join up with the Proud Boys, they’s protect you. Oh wait you’re Native American now, so screw you.

If Liz Warren is “Pocahontas”, McCarthy should be “Sitting Bullshit”.

Can we disenfranchise him because of his choice of jeans?

Can we boot him and his family onto the IHS (Indian Health Services)?

Anyone else notice the irony of this in light of Trump’s “Pocahontas” slur against Elizabeth Warren? Right-wingers falsely claim she advanced her career by claiming minority status. But it appears that McCarthy’s in-laws made millions off a dubious claim of Native American ancestry. Can we refer to McCarthy’s brother-in-law as Chief Running Bull Pucky?

I hope you are not also holding your breath. (It really is amazing that if we want to know what a Republican has done wrong, all we have to do is see what he, or potentially she, says against someone else. Their urge to project their sins is apparently irresistible. It must be a form of Poe’s “Imp of the Perverse.”)
