Discussion: McCain To Return To Senate Tuesday For Vote To Proceed On Obamacare Repeal

Trump will blame the brain cancer if McCain doesn’t support him.

Oh the irony of coming back from a health problem…to cut health care for Americans. We’ll see if McCain is a real maverick or if he puts party over country and falls in line.

He always puts his party over country.

So, tell us, John McCain - do you want to be the guy who casts the vote to take health care away from 22 million Americans? Or the guy who did the right thing because it is right? Because this will be your legacy. Forever. In the history books and in Wikipedia. And is Trump the kind of guy you really want to help get credit for a huge win for him? President Trump? Because he will get the credit, he will get the victory. Remember, you wanted to be president - is he the kind of president you would have been? Remember what he said about you during the campaign. Is he the kind of president you think is good for the country you say you love? What kind of man will you be when you step up today, John McCain?

Exactly. This is what will live on and be remembered. I guess we’ll find out if he hates Obama more than Trump or vice versa. We might even find out if he wants to be remembered as a straight-talking public servant. This really is one of those periods in history that try your soul and show what you’re made out of.

Of course he’s been eclipsed by Trump, but let’s not forget McCain’s longstanding hatred for Obama. He’ll be delighted to cast a vote that puts a nail in the coffin of Obama’s legacy, even if it means placing the health of American citizens in peril.

All bets are off, impossible to un-remember who was selected as running mate:

I wonder what kind of reaction the Republicans would have if a Democratic Senator took to the floor before the vote and said something like this:

Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) went to the Senate floor to propose a prayer. “What the American people ought to pray is that somebody can’t make the vote tonight,” he said. “That’s what they ought to pray.”

Didn’t Coburn recover from prostate cancer not long ago?

I fully expect you to be right, but to be fair, this is a vote to proceed to debate not voting for repeal outright. He’s been calling for an open debate on it from early on, so it would be expected of him to support that now. The real sticking point will be when they start voting on actual amendments and final passage.

Yep, vote to proceed. Tighten your chin straps, McCain is a yes vote for debate and amendment which are his baseline for any eventual support.

Exactly!

Shame, on McCain if he votes in favor of repeal.

He has never been a real maverick. As an up and coming former war hero congressman, he was implicated in being bought off by Arizona banker Charles Keating along with a bunch of other Reagan Wave congressmen and senators. He wants to allow debate on the various alternative bills without himself ever going on record as to what the ACA should be replaced with. Never committed himself to any policies or provisions. No Democrats have been included in the drafting of the various proposals and the GOP has no intention of seeking any type of bipartisan compromise during the “debate.” The purpose is solely to get the bills to the floor and see if McConnell (and Trump) can scare and corral enough votes to be able to say they fulfilled their 7 years of bitching about the ACA without actually coming up with any policies. The Tax Cut is what they want. And may get. McCain is no profile in courage. He is a glorified, over aged errand boy.

GWB and Karl Rove smeared McCain during the 2000 South Carolina primary with the rumor that he’d fathered an illegitimate child of color. What did McCain ultimately do? He supported Bush.

GWB and Karl Rove smeared fellow Vietnam vet John Kerry during the 2004 campaign. What did McCain ultimately do? He supported Bush.

Donald Trump mocked McCain’s experience as a tortured Vietnam POW in 2015. What did McCain ultimately do? He supported Trump.

Whenever John McCain has had the opportunity to stand up for himself or for his fellow military veterans against the lies and smears of fellow Republicans, he’s obediently knuckled under. Bush and Rove and Trump correctly took the measure of him. If McCain defies Trump and the Republican leadership to vote against TrumpCare, it will be the first time in his political life that he’s exhibited anything approximating a spine.

If John McCain votes for it, we should call it McCainCare in honor of someone who had access to 1st Class healthcare VIA;

Medicare
The VA
Tri-Care (Military)
ACA (VIA Senate offerings)

God Bless you Senator John McCain.

What a f*cked legacy you would have.

I know that planes are pressurized and all, but I’m kind of surprised that his doctors ok’ed this trip, with the massive change in elevation, etc.

He is a true American hero. Dragging himself away from his treatments for brain cancer in order to be able to cast his vote to take healthcare away from other people. What a swell guy.

He’s vote #50 to kill the ACA. Like every other RepubliKKKlan he got his Government paid health care and he will gladly steal it from others.
