It was basically their idea, and they know it, and they could have helped craft it and be proud of it as a conservative success story. Every major program, be it Medicare, Medicaid, or Social Security, had some hiccups that needed to be worked out. But back then, we had enough statesmen and women that those issues were eventually resolved. That’s what so sorely lacking today because, instead, we have unprincipled cads like Ted Cruz and Mitch McConnell in charge. Perhaps now they’ll be forced to work with Dems, but I won’t hold my breath.
