Senator, howâs âComprehensive Tax Reformâ coming along? Surely you canât be so benighted as to think the Fractured Fairy Tale you call a Congress is going, for once, to come up with legislation. The dreamers donât have Friends on K Street, âcomprehensiveâ ainât happening.
John McCain, though not perfect at least has a heart, something that Sessions and trump do not possess.
Please. McCain had the chance to vote DACA into law in 2010 and voted ânoâ as did the Dutchess and most of the GOP caucus.
Donât expect any action.
While Senator McCain is correct that we need a comprehensive immigration bill, we have Don the Conâs 6 month clock ticking with Dreamers. We should not make the perfect the enemy of the good. A simple bill legislatively implementing DACA is essential. It may even have the votes to pass, whereas a comprehensive bill is far more problematic. Letâs get DACA back for now.
Blah, Blah, Blah. Republicans believe in punishment in all cases. . . . except before you are born, of course. But after you are born, punishment is the only option.
Dreamers do have friends on K Street, because theyâre good for business. The problem is that they donât have friends over at the Confederate flag rally, which K Street relies upon to help them get their Republican servants elected.
I agree with your larger point, however; Any legislation with the label âcomprehensiveâ seems hopelessly out of touch with the reality of a Congress infected by the fraudulently dysfunctional GOP (see preceding paragraph).
Trump wonât listen to ya (nor will Congress) Johnny. Itâs too lateâŚwaaaay too late for reason ti be useful here. Trump is determined to make kids brought here by their parents to suffer for the sins of those very parents cuz brown skin ya knows.
Come to think of it⌠trumpâs mom came here from Scotland⌠does that make olâ donnie an anchor baby?
And if by some chance they do get some action - if this Trump-created crisis turns out to be one step too far and results in Republicans actually talking to Democrats and working with them to correct a situation that everyone except #45 and his base realize is unfair, tragic and ugly â will you be willing to revise your expectations just a bit the next time an opportunity arises? I donât know if they will manage to thwart #45 by cooperating and making permanent what he tried to kill, but I do know that saying - repeatedly and with anger - that âit will never happenâ isnât going to make it more likely that such a thing might happen. â
I always thought the rigid right-wing conservatives were notable - and identifiable - by the sense of anger that they brought to everything they looked at, with Trump and his unending, mean-spirited nastiness being the prime example of that attitude. But sometimes I wonder if they are very different after all⌠President Obama and VP Biden certainly didnât adopt that approach, and I think - hope - we are beginning to see the wisdom of their âstay calm and keep on working toward the goalâ approach â keeping their "eye on the prize"as was said in earlier days. Despite 8 years of no cooperation and encouragement from the Republicans, they managed to establish the ACA so well that it didnât break when assaulted ⌠and they put DACA into operation and convinced a lot of people, some Republicanism included, that it was a good - and just - idea. Itâs a personal decision, I suppose, but I prefer to follow their example rather than echoing the Trump base and demonizing everyone who doesnât agree 100% with what I want to have happen.
If some of the Republicans break ranks and start listening to and cooperating with the Dems â and their constituents â enough to codify a program that has already shown it works and benefits the nation and is fair, then perhaps they will learn that lightening doesnât strike and it will be a bit easier with the next issue that comes up. After 8 years of doing nothing but chanting âNoâ, itâs going to take a little practice to make them able to wake up and start governing ⌠DACA is the easiest bit of âpracticeâ that has come along in a long time. Hopefully #45âs attempt to kill it off will, in the end, rebound on him as thoroughly as his firing of Comey did! If enough of us speak up to our Representatives and up-for-reelection Senators and let them know how many non-Trump-base types are going to be voting in the next election, perhaps things may start to shift.
I ove your attitude. I really do. But the problem is GOP running next year have to win their primaries first and thatâs where all the fuck witted damage gets done - only the crazy vote in the GOP primary.
Things will shift when we take Congress back next year. Keep believing that we will because I believe we will. Then Ryan will really see what an actual working Congress looks like.
Per McCain, implementing DACA by the unilateral action of an Executive Order was wrong, therefore it should not be rescinded. Try as I may, there is something about GOP logic that I simply cannot master.
Chiselinâ Trump: âI like people who donât have hearts.â
Excellent post! I am fortunate enough to live in a state (Illinois) with two Democratic senators and my US Rep is Democratic. Theyâll do the right thing. With Trump and his white nationalist GOP followers Iâm less sure.
The âmaverickâ is free to change his position on anything at any time, with impunity. It gets him on all the talk shows, doncha know! I wouldnât believe a word that comes out of his mouth until thereâs a vote.
