Gorsuch is not unqualified, but he is not a bipartisan choice. He is very far to one end of the spectrum. Trump could have nominated a middle of the road-er. He specifically nominated someone who would give him partisan advantage. Remember when he released the list of his possible nominees as a campaign tactic. So this was purely partisan even before it actually happened.

Someone in an earlier thread pointed out that the 2020 campaign is already underway - T***p had a 2020 campaign rally - so by the GOP new reasoning that there cannot be a Supreme Court nomination during a campaign, isn’t this dead in the water? Trump nominated Gorsuch on Jan. 31, 2017, after filing w/FEC:

Indeed. Garland was literally offered up by Orrin Hatch as an example of the type of bipartisan judge the GOP would get behind. Until he was nominated of course. At which point, Hatch refused to even meet with Garland.

What extraordinary conditions like a nominee by a President under investigation for colusion with a foreign power to steal an election, to fill a seat that is only open because of an unprecedented partisan refusal to even meet with the previous president’s nominee? My own belief is that this “began” with the GOP decision to obstruct anything and everything Obama wished to do. Blame Minority Leader McConnell and his “unprecedented” use of the filibuster beginning on Sen S. Brown’s first day in office in 2010, and culminating with the obstruction of consideration of Merrick Garland. And now comes the hand-wringing and weeping about the loss of Senate decorum and comity. Such a dark day! What a bunch of ass-clowns: McConnell, McCain, Graham, Thune, Cornyn (giant ass-clown), etc - all 52 of them.
Your just desserts are waiting right around the corner. And yes, the question begs to be asked. Just who do you represent? All of you. A minority of a minority.

What a joke! McCain should have noted the dark day when Mitch McConnell refused to act as a “respected” senator and blocked Judge Garland. What did McCain do about this? GOP senators are cowards and bullies and thoroughly disgusting. They will push through Gorsuch, even though we are learning more every day, what he was hiding from - his sexism, his corporate sponsorship (how much has he been paid ? How corrupt is this guy).
McCain should honor the Senate by standing with the Democrats. But McCain has lost all decency too. Gorsuch will get voted in but at the cost of the Senate. How proud the GOP must be. Tainted, corrupt, paid off - but he will be on the bench.
