This is a good faith effort to resolve the problem. Trump will only support bad faith efforts so this, like the Graham Durbin effort, is quite likely to fail. Will McConnell keep his promise to allow a vote on it? Not holding my breath.

On a recent Wednesday morning, Syed Ahmed Jamal was getting ready to take his daughter to school when he was stopped outside his home in Lawrence, Kan.
Officials from Immigration and Customs Enforcement were on his front lawn. Before Jamal, 55, could say goodbye to his wife and three children, the ICE agents detained him and led him away in handcuffs.
The arrest of a “beloved Lawrence family man, scientist and community leader” came as a shock to Jamal’s friends and neighbors in the Kansas City area, where he has lived since arriving in the United States on a student visa from Bangladesh more than 30 years ago. He would go on to also attain graduate degrees in molecular biosciences and pharmaceutical engineering, then settle in Lawrence to raise a family.
Along the way, he switched from student visas to an H-1B visa for highly skilled workers, then back to a student visa when he enrolled in a doctoral program, his family said. At the time of his arrest, Jamal was on a temporary work permit, teaching chemistry as an adjunct professor at Park University in Kansas City and conducting research at various local hospitals.
In a statement to The Washington Post, an ICE official said the agency “continues to focus its enforcement resources on individuals who pose a threat to national security, public safety and border security.” Asked whether Jamal had done anything that would have placed him in this category, the official said that, “as ICE Acting Director Thomas Homan has made clear, ICE does not exempt classes or categories of removable aliens from potential enforcement.”
and this will be repeated time and time again and we must bring every case like this forward through social media or whatever means possible .

This is a sensible bill, therefore will go nowhere. Congress will likely pass a 1 year or 6 month DACA extension and pat themselves on the back. A more useless institution would be hard to imagine.

It’s pretty clever in the malicious way it shows his unseriousness. You want increased security for real? Fine, we can study the situation and see what, if anything, is actually going to advance that. If all you want is a symbol, a pointless exercise in pleasing concrete-thinking racists offended by McDonald’s menus in Spanish or by hearing “Oprima el numero dos,” who don’t even know how immigrants cross the border in reality, if that’s what you want, you stupid, lazy demagogue, then you can damn well say so.
Well, I suppose now all we must do is wait for the revered opinion of That Great Lime Jell-O Cup Of Truth, Justice, and “Moderation”, Senator Susan Collins. Let us see how long this time Susan can try to appear sane and reasonable and trustworthy to the media before getting on her knees and voting for any POS legislation Trump and the RW racist GOP want her to vote for.
I wonder why Susan isn’t crowing about that giant $1.50-an-hour Costco tax cut her partner-in-crime Paul Ryan was so crazy about? I am sure her constituents in Maine will gladly use the extra cash to travel to the airport to greet her when she visits her home state.

And the cost of removing this man, and others like him should be deducted from Trump’s Wall fund.

Nah, Congress will enact a bill allowing seizure of all the deportee’s assets as “ill gotten gains”.
Trump’s plan, unveiled last month, provides a path to citizenship for about 1.8 million DACA recipients, but also asks Congress for $25 billion for the border wall and cuts back on legal lottery and family-based immigration systems.
I really would like it if some journalist interviewed Kelly and Miller on how the current system vets refugees, lottery immigrants, and other immigrants. Do they really know the systems that are in place now? Nail them down on why these things need to be changed.
