Discussion: McCabe Says 'It's Possible' Trump Could Be A 'Russian Asset'

This is news?! Is it possible that Trump is not a Russian agent?

Although the favorite term is still ā€œuseful idiot.ā€

Trump is first & foremost - a Trump asset. Opportunistically seeking self enrichmentā€¦ above all else.

Weā€™re all anxious to see what the Mueller investigation concludes. Unfortunately with the DOJ stance to not indict a President and Bill Barr in place to limit whatā€™s made public, Trumpā€™s culpability may not be reported in time for the nation to act on it.

Itā€™s not ā€œpossible,ā€ itā€™s a goddam certainty.

Itā€™s ā€œpossibleā€ the Sun rose in the East this morning and that water is still wet.

Still, hearing the guy say it out loud on national television takes things to another level of disorientation for me. The ā€œthis canā€™t possibly be happeningā€ feeling came back.

Real estate agent. Heā€™s a businessman.

Well, he certainly is an associate who is deeply in their debt. That makes him a very useful asset.

There are a few interesting lines that have been crossed with this story. This really puts into blunt words the possibility that has been danced around with hints and language that is more vague. It may well reset the bar for discussion of ā€œwhat did he know and when did he know itā€ to include a penetrating reveal of motives and specific treasonous acts.
It will be a total rock fight to shape and manage perceptions ā€¦ but McCabeā€™s comments have possibly moved the needle in a direction that makes this a lot more perilous for Treasonous Trump ā€¦it makes it more plausible that Trumpā€™s true allegiance is to the advancement of Putinā€™s agenda.

ā€œAssetā€ is a word McCabe would use very carefully. Itā€™s definitely possible that Donald Trump is merely acting out of a weird combination of fear and admiration. I still think thatā€™s the most likely scenario, actually: Trump clearly always bristles and bucks like an unruly stallion (or dog!) when told what to do, but he can be manipulated and back-seat-coached fairly easily. Were I Putin, I wouldnā€™t want to give the guy instructions. Iā€™d want him always trying to figure out how to please me, but mostly from armā€™s length.

Consider the difference between Roger Stone saying ā€œDonald, you need to promise to build a wall on the southern borderā€ and ā€œDonald, you know what I bet would really pump up your audience? Talking about a wall.ā€

He was on Colbert last night. At one point, Colbert basically asked him if there was any information over the last two years that would lend the idea that Trump is not not. McCabe answered ā€œNoā€ immediately, paused as Colbert stared at him and then added ā€œWas that too fast?ā€ McCabe is getting comfortable on the talk show circuit.

McCabe has advanced the publicā€™s understanding of the threat Trump is, and the crimes that Trump has committed. People now finally get that obstruction = ā€˜collusionā€™. Trump obstructs because he conspired (ā€˜colludedā€™) with the Russians and is desperate to cover it up. There is no good reason why a sitting POTUS would not want the FBI to inform him as to what the Russians did to attack the US, unless of course he was in on it, a beneficiary of it, wanted to leverage it for financial gain, and rely on it for re-election. Itā€™s the simplest explanation and there is not one alternative explanation that comes close to explaining Trumpā€™s odd behavior or that of his associates.

He sure as fuck isnā€™t an American asset!

Canā€™t predict the futureā€¦ but do have the impression that Mueller is very ā€œold school " - will not be a pawn for a cover upā€¦ will not be party to obvious wrongdoing just because he was ordered to do so. It is often said that 'the truth will come outā€ ā€¦ and often it only does because brave people took a risk and made sure it did. Have a hunch that Mueller will find a way to relentlessly focus the sunlight of truth on vampire Trump.

And itā€™s possible the sun will rise tomorrow. In the east, even.

Lots of confusion about this because we tend to hear the general, colloquial meanings of words like that, where in the intelligence community theyā€™re terms of art with very specific meanings. Like you say, Trump probably doesnā€™t have specific instructions that get attached to the bottom of park benches so he can pick them up and so forth. Iā€™ve seen the term ā€œagent of influence,ā€ which isnā€™t an ā€œagentā€ as we think of it. Itā€™s someone influential whoā€™s generally on your side and does what can be done for you without specific instructions. I think Jared has actually been passing classified information to the Saudis, so that would be something else again. The whole thing is just a sickening disaster and as the first poster said, the question is how in the hell he wouldnā€™t be some kind of tool for the Russkies, given what weā€™ve seen.
