Good Holy Christ of the Twitter Machine, is there no one in this hell-hole of an Administration that understands that all this blustering and saber-rattling is giving Pyongyang exactly what it wants? Are they all fucking idiots?

his first orders to me emphasized the readiness of our ballistic missile defense and nuclear deterrent forces.

Kinda vague, General, but good effort covering for you know who…

So you’re saying we can’t rely on a Marine Corps general named “'Mad Dog Mattis” as the voice of restraint?

“In May 2004, Mattis ordered the 3:00 a.m. bombing of a suspected enemy safe house near the Syrian border, which later came to be known as the Mukaradeeb wedding party massacre, and which resulted in the deaths of 42 civilians. Mattis stated that it had taken him 30 seconds to deliberate on whether or not to bomb the location.”

Mattis generally (no pun intended) is a relatively calm head. Which leads me to wonder two things:

  1. We’ve heard about the reports on miniaturization, we’ve heard about the missile range, and we’ve heard about the announcement of ‘maybe we’ll hit Guam’… what haven’t we heard about that the Pentagon and CIA have?

2)Jesus H. Christ on a cracker, if this is what Mattis is saying, what’s Trump wanting him to say?

Yeah. Follow what Trump is doing with Russia.

Yes Vlad. No, Vlad. Whatever you say, Vlad. Anything you want, Vlad…

Of course Trump doesn’t consult with people who are better informed…

Except that those yucky transgender troops are ruining our military readiness. How can we win a war with Pyongyang if we’re selling all our ammunition to pay for surgeries??!?

A hyperpower?

OK, let’s complete the thought, a hyperpower being run as if it were a family-run third word banana republic.

bullying and belligerent speech ALWAYS gets one what they desire, until someone stands up to them (I don’t recommend a Guam vacation) then the tough guy facade comes crashing down, and this douchebag president is nothing but a facade, and it is obvious to those who care to look

Yep, this is Mattis trying to sound relatively sane without prompting trump to fire him. But a deeper question: why is the SecDef addressing remarks to a foreign government at all? That should be Tillerson’s job, except Tillerson is too busy cleaning up after trump.

Technically the chief of staff ought to be able to leave the president unattended for a few days without the latter squawking about nuclear holocaust like a tin-pot dictator, but we’re in a different timeline. It’s all hands on deck all the time with Donnie.

Yes, they are all fucking idiots.

I have some expensive wine I was saving for Thanksgiving. My husband and I are drinking it tonight. Just in case . . .

“President Trump was informed of the growing threat last December…”

***So Trump became aware of a problem that has vexed the political, military and diplomatic world for almost 30 years.***

***1989:*** Soviet control of communist governments throughout Europe begins to weaken, and the Cold War comes to a close. Post-Soviet states emerge in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. As the USSR's power declines, North Korea loses the security guarantees and economic support that had sustained it for 45 years.
Through satellite photos, the U.S. learns of new construction at a nuclear complex near the North Korean town of Yongbyon. U.S. intelligence analysts suspect that North Korea, which had signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) in 1985 but had not yet allowed inspections of its nuclear facilities, is in the early stages of building a nuclear bomb.
In response, the U.S. pursues a strategy in which North Korea's full compliance with the NPT would lead to progress on other diplomatic issues, such as the normalization of relations.

The DPRK should cease any consideration of actions that would lead to the end of its regime and the destruction of its people.

The DPRK regime’s actions will continue to be grossly overmatched by ours and would lose any arms race or conflict it initiates.

How is this promoting anything other than a dare toward a “leadership” that is totally unhinged?
