I hope people around the world realize itâs the American people that truly represent America and its values and not this Administration, which was rejected by the majority of voters.
There are more protests planned for today.
The more I read about the EO, the more disgusted I am. Yet, aside from the usual crowd, I still havenât heard a peep from the GOP. SPEAK UP! Trump is destroying our international relationships, including with the woman WHO WAS JUST HERE and who has now been outflanked on her left by HER OWN FOREIGN MINISTER. How many legal residents of this country will you allow to be detained for hours on end, encouraged to sign away their long-term rights? How many US armed forces and overseas contractors will have to be put in peril before youâll find your voice?
Or does that incompetent, hate-filled, alcoholic loser at PotUSâs side really scare you that much?
Donât agree with this ban. That said, we all have to acknowledge that a significant number of Americans, although a minority, are frightened of terrorism taking root in this country. Perhaps itâs PTSD rooted in the Towersâ fall or in more nasty traits, but it is definitely there. How to combat this fear is a definite problem that liberals like myself need to recognize and seek ways to counter it.
Youâve named the problem and how difficult it is to counter it. Perhaps psychology might help give us ways to work at the roots of the fear. It canât be wished or argued away.
Itâs a false fear deliberately planted by those seeking to obtain and hold onto power.
The fear now is of Trump, Bannon, and the world they seek to shape. Trumpâs comments about taking the oil in Iraq â when we have troops there, now in danger. Why would he say these things? Is he trying to provoke his own 9/11 so he can â ? So many things possible. But war, bigger war.
Bush talked about a Crusade. Trump and his choice of VP in Pence â which allowed Trumpâs election -- so many of them believe in prophecy. They become tools.
Our liberal and â be honest â the majority of Americans and the world, fear trump out of reason.
Yes, it flies against our laws and everything we have stood for.
Worked for dickâânâ'dubyaâŚremember the threat levels?
Then how do we effectively counter âfalse fearâ? I am not disagreeing with you but this does not provide an answer to those voters who have real or false fear and factor that into their voting.
The question I posed is how do we counter this with that section of Americans who have real (or false) fear of terrorism? The last election was won based on former Obama voters taking a chance with Trump. At least one factor may be this fear of Muslim terrorists. How do liberals counter that argument directly with those individuals? Not that Iâm suggesting this as your argument, but making light of these fears will not be successful in turning these voters to less chaotic candidates either in the midterms or in 2020 when I certainly want to make sure Trump is a one-term president.
With the truth. It shall set thee free.

Perhaps what we really need is a nation wide strike. If everyone who is truly appalled by the actions of this administration refuses to work until the Republicans in Congress take action and denounce this behavior, maybe something will get done.
Remember, the blue states have the power to shut the U.S economy down almost completely. Imagine if 30% of the people in California, New York, and Illinois simply didnât show up for work. If the red states donât want us, fine. Weâll just all stay home for a week or two.
Water boarding will speed up the process, right, Republicans?
And if a few hundred innocent Americans get ânot-torturedâ⌠well, thatâs a small price to pay to catch⌠you know, those terrorist armies flocking to Baggage Claim.
Yes, there are those who fear but they are the same block that voted Bush, the disinformed who have believed all along that Obama is Muslim. As to how we speak to them, that is the big burning question.
I lived in Red States during the Bush years and I found it impossible. Why? I think this piece is really telling: http://billmoyers.com/story/student-voted-trump/#
The last election was won based on former Obama voters taking a chance with Trump.
Hm. IMHO the election was won because the Democrats lost their expected-win states by margins of ~1% â which the âprotest voteâ would easily have filled. There was Russsian interference, wiki, certain actions by certain FBI directors, the Koch fueled teabagger-gerrymandered House who decide what gets attention or even comes to light â we could go on (say, media coverage⌠http://www.forbes.com/sites/brettedkins/2016/12/13/trump-benefited-from-overwhelmingly-negative-tone-of-election-news-coverage-study-finds/#662a125e6093 ) All of which overshadow whatever Obama supporters may have gone Trump.
The biggest factor thatâs so little discussed is that without Pence and the Christian block, Trump would never have won. And without Trump and tricks, Pence would never have gotten anywhere near the White House.
So we have different assumptions. But the same goal: forward.
Today we see the fearless out in spontaneous support. We also see Breibart weaving more lies about the protesters being terrorits. Until we have press that actually gives us reality, we will have the hate-fear factory.
Interesting to see so many moving to twitter, following actions and prople actually involved and informed as things happen. Weâre bypassing the usual media.
There have been about half a dozen GOPers to speak out against the ban. Again, weâre only at two weeks into this administration. The fact that anyone in the GOP is criticizing him at all is pretty big. I predict that by summer some GOPers will be openly talking about impeachment. But itâs not going to happen overnight and things are going to get much worse before it gets better.
A âsignificantâ number of Americans believe the government is trying to poison them with chemtrails; a âsignificantâ number of Americans believe inoculations cause Autism; a âsignificantâ number of Americans believe in horoscopes.
Terrorism âtaking rootâ in this country due to immigration is just as big a fairytale as the rest of the above.
plucky, if this goes on until summer, this country will see the hottest summer since 1968. Probably hotter, given climate change, but Iâm not talking about climate.
Weâre already on the streets and it ainât even marching season. I agree it might take awhile, but they are in for one rough ride until this is over. Itâs only going to get rougher for them.
No, itâs really NOT marching season and yet folks are really getting at it. I canât imagine how wild itâs gonna get this spring and summer.
