Wow. Hate to be the person that let that slip away…

That’s probably the definition of a bad day.

$2.7 billion.

“Failed to meet its operational goals.”

And that’s why we need to abolish the Dept. of Education.

Heck of a Job! I mean, we’ve not been attacked by Land Attack Cruise Missiles now have we? I feel safer already!

Wait… $2.7 billion? You know, it’s because we spend so much on shit like this, we can’t have nice things.

That particular balloon isn’t $2.7B, it’s the cost of the program.

I’m surprised it hasn’t exploded or fallen. Because the tension on the cable is so high (the balloon sits almost directly above the winch that holds the cable) then it should have rocketed up when the cable broke. Getting that high should cause it to either explode (as the pressure inside is so much higher than the pressure outside) or would cause valves to leak out helium which should cause it to fall. It won’t be up very long.

“…the tether is made of Vectran…”

The first step in product reliability is to give it a meaningless brand name.

Yes, I wondered about that. A single B2 bomber runs around $2 billion, so unless this is a supersonic stealth blimp…

I’m sure they’ll want to control the descent (shoot it down) over farmland. I would also be fairly certain it would have some pressure release to keep it from asploding. Probably designed by the same folks that designed the tether.

Can the tether break?
The chance of that happening is very small
because the tether is made of Vectran and
has withstood storms in excess of 100 knots.

Vectran....hmmmm. A product of the Kuraray Group, a Japanese company!!! Fire up the internment camps!!!! Run away!!!!

Tether was made from polybendum.

I get that. I’m not one to compare rotten apples to oranges, but that $2.7 billion would have bought 5 million laptops for our schools.

If he’s a Republican, nothing will happen. If he’s a Democrat, a Congressional committee will be formed.

And our government doesn’t want to trust ordinary citizens with toy drones, they want us to leave such things to the professionals.

Are you allowed to say that in public?
