If we had a true democracy, without gerrymandering and stacking of districts we would be better off. The sad truth is that red staters are voting for Republicans on “image” and “they are one of us” even while agreeing much more with Democrats on the issues.
Yeah. What’s fucked up is that if the “teams” Democrat and Republican didn’t exist, I think the overall vote would be a lot more liberal. There’s so much unnecessary 50/50 tribalism that isn’t borne out in these ballot proposal votes
The Framers saw what they called “factions” as the greatest threat to the nation. I used to think they were exaggerating, but now I believe they were right. Only a blind adherence to party labels would elect Ted Cruz over Beto O’Rourke or re-elect indicted Congressmen Collins and Hunter. Or, to be fair, Bob Menendez, though at least he was tried and not convicted.
