All too rare decency in a Republican…
Well, Hogan just kicked his invitation to Trump’s 2021 Inaugural Ball to the curb.
Whatever Trump touches, turns to ashes. White Nationalists will be filing bankruptcy soon.
In the past, Hogan has opposed removing the Taney statue. Last year he called the push for the statue to be moved from the state house lawn “political correctness run amok.”
2018 y’all
"While we cannot hide from our history – nor should we – the time has come to make clear the difference between properly acknowledging our past and glorifying the darkest chapters of our history…With that in mind, I believe removing the Justice Roger B. Taney statue from the State House grounds is the right thing to do, and we will ask the State House Trust to take that action immediately.”

FIFY, ya white nationalist twit
Hogan is possibly looking at a tough 2018 race.
Old, fat, white hypocrite loser says what?
Maybe some help from the Russians will tip the scale.
Interesting. It’s not a Confederate monument.
I wouldn’t call it decency given his past desire to keep the statue in place. I will give the Governor credit for being able to read the ‘writing on the wall’.
Yea, albeit a bit of a timid step in the right direction. As someone who grew up in Maryland I remember numerous Confederate-themed monuments. For example, there is a double statue of Stonewall Jackson and Robert E Lee in Baltimore captioned, “THEY WERE GREAT GENERALS AND/ CHRISTIAN SOLDIERS AND WAGED/ WAR LIKE GENTLEMEN.” (ugh) and yet another statue of Taney at the foot of the Washington Monument.
Governor Hogan needs to remember that Maryland’s nickname is “The Free State.”
The white trashionalists claimed that the Charlottesville march would be a rallying point. It has been. With people who oppose them. Congratulation, white trashionalists! You have helped speed up the process of getting rid of these statues.
To be fair, the electoral college handed the last two GOP POTUSes a participation trophy too…it just happened to be the Presidency. The GOP really doesn’t mind them as long as they’re the ones receiving them.
Remember that the prophet Daniel interpreted the writing on the wall for Belshazzar, the King of Babylon (Daniel 5).
“Mene, Mene, Tekel, Upharsin”
It was too late for Belshazzar, though. His goose was already cooked. Perhaps it’s the same for Governor Hogan.
Pretty misleading headline “Removal of Statue Recalling Slavery”; should read “Removal of Statue Honoring SCOTUS Decision Upholding Slavery”
If the statues come down due to political expediency rather than a pure heart, I can live with that.
Geez, is there some shortage of genuinely honorable and heroic people in these places that they had to resort to putting up a statue of Roger Taney?
A lot of it is about placement. A nice quiet backwater for remembrance is different from front-and-center everyone someone comes to petition for redress of grievances.
