Democracy is a compromise.
Pathetic. Whatâs next, Mary? A bill to repeal Obamacare? Impeachment? You deserve to lose.
Respect might be recognizing that liberals donât make up a majority of the Democratic electorate, much less the whole country.
I donât understand. What is your objection to the title of the article?
Shades of lynchings.
Yep another Blue Dog gone. Democrats running as a Republican have been loosing year after year. I know some Democrats will blame the Progressives, but I doubt there are many progressives in those states these people are running in.
Exactly. Demos who run as Republicans always trail the genuine article. If voters want a Republican, why would they opt for the pretender? All this tactic does is deny GOP detractors any choice at all. And, they wonder why the Democratic base doesnât get excited to turn out!
Just what is your problem with the way Senator Sanders votes?
It also provides cover for the Republicans to claim that their latest bit of crazy has bipartisan support when they can count on some Blue Dog to sign on looking to bolster their conservative credentials back home, which in turn helps provide cover for the mediaâs âboth sides are the sameâ false equivalencies.
Landrieu fell victim to the same flawed strategy that insured defeat for most of the Democratic candidates in the south. Pandering to the other guyâs base trying distance yourself from President Obama, who IS popular with your only solid constituency was and is a certain recipe for failure. You disrespect the favorite son of the African American community and then expect them to turn out to the polls in droves to save your behind?
An Obama full court press to get out the vote would have only provided a remote chance of success. But it was the only chance that she had. She, like many others on both sides of the asile deserve to be fired from Congress.
Would she be better than a Republican? I guess, but not much. If sheâs spending her time promoting a Koch Brothers project then sheâs not going to get any support from me. Hopefully this will serve as a lesson to other Democrats who think they can win by becoming Republicans. Perhaps if she acted like a Democrat she would get the base out voting and have a fighting chance.
Look the choices are: Landrieu or a Republican. The reason to support someone like Landrieu is that in spite of all the crap positions she has to take to be a Dem from LA, she will hold her nose and vote with the Dems on certain things, like the ACA
Mary Landrieu has done a fine job as a senator, but unfortunately given that she is from what is arguably the most backwards state in the union, there is little reason to believe she will pull off a miracle upset in the upcoming runoff. Given Louisianaâs right-wing extremism has grown over the past quarter-century, the Democrats were lucky to have had Landrieu there for as long as they did.
Senator Landrieu, thank you for a job well done. You will be missed, and Iâm sorry that Louisianians donât see how fortunate they are to have you as their senator. Even-handed, fair-minded, and intelligent are not traits voters look for in the Bayou.

Whores for the Kleptocracy
30 Demcratic Senators??? You aim too high. There would be like 8-10 Democratic Senators if they had their way. Unlike the TEA Party Republicans, far left Democrats donât have mid-term racial demographics working for them.
Uhh, wrong!
The choices are a Republican or The Person We Get After We âExecuteâ (Thanks, Sahil!) Landrieu.
It makes so much sense when you say it like that doesnât it?
The phrase âdance with the girl you broughtâ comes to mind.
But I still try see it from the other side as well, when I do I see this problem. You would think that any white who is seeing red simply because the President is black didnât vote for a Democrat in the first place, but that is not the case. Lots of white people in the confederate south voted for Senators like Landrieu and Pryor without ever thinking much about racial politics. Now that racial politics have been thrust into their face they are seeing red. So if you are Landrieu what do you do?
Personally, I think you assessment still holds. Pandering to the other guyâs base while trying to distance yourself from your own leader is a recipe for failure. I think you should stick to your leader and tell the people why he is right when he is right. Distancing yourself from your own party is not really possible.
So, a desperate Landrieu may make a bid to be elected by Democrats? No, both she and party leadership would prefer that she be defeated by a Republican.
Sad.
The idea that Landrieu will retain her Senate seat if Dems vote for the Keystone XL Pipeline is ludicrous. Â I give her credit for standing up for the ACA and the right to abortion, but Landrieu would have done better to highlight other accomplishments of the Obama administration rather than run away from the first African-American president. She gave little attention to issues that would have roused the enthusiasm of her African-American base to go out and vote.
Yes.
Next question?
