Discussion: Marquette Poll: Sanders Widens Lead In Wisconsin

We all know that every poll released is different. Sanders the Socialist is too old, ideas are senile. I don’t think that the ones who vote for him and only because of his bag of freebies, that nothing is free. He said at the debate the free college will be paid by adding an extra tax to the middle class. Hillary is offering a 4 year tuition free college also, but hers will be paid for by closing the tax loopholes that the wealthy use to hide assets in offshore accounts. Makes more sense to me than taxing an already over burdened middle class family.

Also keep in mind that Reagan was 70 and already showing signs of Alzheimer’s. Sanders has accomplished nothing in his political career. Check out what Hillary has done. Not just see the lies that the GOP has been putting out. Sanders cannot beat Trump. That has been proven by the percentages. A vote for Sanders is a vote for Trump. Don’t wait until it’s too late.

She is doomed. The path to victory goes through Wisconsin. Everybody knows that.

I don’t even know why he bothers. She’s inevitable. Everybody knows it!

This is the gold standard poll out of Wisconsin, but why the hell does it have a 6.3% MOE? Also, it’s several points divergent towards Sanders than other recent polling, OTOH, it’s an open primary and it is relatively close. We’ll find out if this is closer to Michigan or Ohio soon enough.

I’m not sure where that 6.3 comes from, either. Simple calc of sigma typically done in this type of polls would lead to about 5%.

IIRC, Emerson does not reach Rs via cellphone and Marquette does. That might be one reason.

At any rate I thought WI was a favorable terrain for Bernie, so no surprise there.

What are you talking about? He’s always made the point that his college plan will be paid for with a tax on Wall Street speculation through a Financial Transaction tax.

Are you trying to imply Wall Street is the “middle class”?

Not sure you understand Sanders’ support. His voters are motivated by anger at the party establishment, and she’s the establishment personified. It’s not about specific policies. It’s about what Poppy Bush called the “Vision thing.” Sanders presents a clear anti-establishment vision, however dubious the details. She presents… what? A continuation of a status quo that everyone’s unhappy with?

Are we all unhappy? I’d vote for Obama again in a heartbeat and so would a majority of the electorate. A third term disguised as Hilary’s first is a fair substitute.

The ‘status quo’ is maintained by intransigent Republicans. Change that a bit - Judge Garland - or change it a lot - Senate and White House from 2017 onward - and frowns will change to smiles, as they say.

Then again, President Obama’s – who represents the ultimate status quo – approval rating among Democrats constantly hits 70 to nearly 80% recently.

I’m not saying your theory is wrong, it is true there is a lot of anger factor in this election cycle in both the sides. But if “everyone is unhappy with” the status quo whereas at the same time they like the status quo (= Obama), then there must be some cognitive dissonance in people’s mind.

You must be new around here. You can’t drag all that hackneyed GOP’er talk to a TPM comments thread without everyone knowing what you’re up to. No one has offered to tax the “middle class” nor is there a way to do that without causing a political firestorm. This may not please you but Sen. Sanders is a bit smarter than you and I and needs no dorky troll criticism from an amateur like you.

And you best tighten up your stealth. Using phrases like “taxing an already over burdened middle class” gives you away. As we all know taxes on the middle class are at an all time low. And Ill bet your “fix” for this burden would be a great deal for the 1 % and not much else?

Your reasoning atrocious, and everything else is flat out wrong.

Reagan was 70 and had alziemers…so therefore don’t vote for Sanders? Clinton is 68, which means she would be 72 by the end of her first term. By your broken logic we shouldn’t vote for her either.

Sanders was a very successful mayor of Burlington and has had a long history of inserting progressive goodies into legislation, including Billions for health clinics in Obamacare.

According to the polls, both Clinton and Sanders beat Trump…but Sanders has a bigger lead.

If you disagree with what I wrote, could you bring actual facts to the discussion.

Sanders didn’t win primaries in several western states. He won caucuses.

I have a question that nobody can answer honestly. Is it realistic for Sanders to try his socialist revolution with the idea
that with a Republican Congress he will be able get free healthcare, free education, Much higher taxes to pay for these and other of his deasires. He also wants to get a much higher federal minum wage, He wants to do away with Nuclear power,
Somebody with guts answer these concerns. Will Mitch Mcconnel welcome Bernie Sanders???

A 6.3 MOE is inconsistent with a gold standard. It’s actually inconsistent with reliability. We’ll have to wait for another poll or better yet the primary results.

I think there is very effective manipulation of feelings and emotions by Sanders and Trump. They are going for the lizard brain.

Many of the policies Hillary talks about and her fawning speech to AIPAC…I’m not buying that her first term would be a third Obama term.

It is very favorable to Sanders. I think Joy Ann Reid said the black population is like 9% and the state is 87‰ white. It’s also got several large colleges.
