Discussion: Marco Rubio's Real Estate Dealings Have Long Been A Drag On His Finances

Discussion for article #237202

and this is the guy that wasn’t to be president and is going to deal with the countries financial and other issues??? What a joke

At worst, he’s made lousy financial decisions. At best, his decision making could be called dubious. Clearly a person in like circumstances with some modicum of financial sense would have done far better in achieving some amount of net worth by age 44. All of this is one huge demerit, amongst many others, in Rubio’s bid for the Presidency. In fact, it’s a deal breaker!

It sounds like that if he did not have the political connections that have allowed him to keep his head above water, that he would be in deep deep financial trouble. Maybe he should concentrate on getting his own house together before trying to run ours into the ground.

persons w/ rectal-cranial inversion have shitty outlook

Wow, what a story. Now I understand why he’s in the race. First, I agree a man at 44 should have enough financial prowess to avoid bad deals, not be dumb enough to take out interest only loans and the like. Second, he’s running hard since at 44, his non-political future is zilch, even as a Fox contributor. Last, how can a man with such poor financial background, let alone extremely questionable decision making, run for the highest office in the land?

Oh, that’s right, he’s a Pub and they never make mistakes, eh?

What a nimrod!

Rubio is a shyster. He can’t get a real job so he stays sucking at the federal teat taking everything for himself while passing laws to take away what you/I, worked for. SS and Medicare. That has been taken out of my paychecks for the last 45 years and they act like they are giving me something unearned.

He is an empty suit and should never sit in the Oval Office.

The foreclosure halt should be investigated as well. Most people can’t get them halted for any amount of money.

Feel how sorry I am for him. A lawyer and apparently not a very good one. Another idiot who votes against his own self interests strictly because of his conservative ideology, Fuck you Rubio

On re-read, note that he said he has a zero net worth.

Bull!

I’ve never seen anyone claim zero…it must be negative if one calculates it correctly including outstanding mortgage, cc, and other loans. God, how dumb can this mini-swashbuckler be to not consult a tax pro on how to answer this question!

Maybe he’s upgraded now to…Super Nimrod!

There was an article in the NYT about this a few weeks ago. I don’t care if he isn’t among the wealthiest members of Congress, but he seems completely irresponsible with money: “The reliance on Mr. Braman is likely to put a spotlight on the finances of Mr. Rubio, who ranks among the least-wealthy candidates in the emerging Republican field. Mr. Rubio left the Florida House of Representatives in 2008 with a net worth of $8,351, multiple mortgages and $115,000 in student debt. In his latest financial disclosure form, for 2013, he reported at least $450,000 in liabilities, including two mortgages and a line of credit.”

I’m not even sure how there could be a net worth of $8,351 with all those debts and liabilities. And how does someone with such a low net worth even qualify for multiple mortgages? Not what the rest of us experience, that’s for sure.

Here’s the whole article: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/05/10/us/billionaire-lifts-marco-rubio-politically-and-personally.html

So, where is his severe disconnect with people in similar circumstances coming from? You think it would make him think twice, but nooo.

Aguas Calientes!!

Just waiting for the news to come out that he’s a slum lord in the Latino community

In an interview, Rubio said, “The cost of living goes up, and you can just imagine how people who make a quarter of what I do face today.”

Yes, only if he was in a position to do something about this…you know…other than just imagine…

Seriously, it’s one thing for a family living on an hourly wage having a net worth close to zero. But a guy with his opportunities, his income, and his connections to be so close to destitute is almost ridiculous. But what makes him unconscionable is that, based on his policy positions, he is completely oblivious and/or unsympathetic to the struggles of those in the lower socio-economic strata.

Hey, give the guy a break. We castigate people like Gingrich, Hastert, and the Clintons all the time for making big bucks from their political connections all the time. Rubio is just a regular guy who can’t seem to make a buck!
