ā€˜rousing speechā€™ ??? it was nothing more than the standard bumper sticker talking points, that are spouted by both parties. although he did invent a new axis of evil ā€“ venezuela/cuba/nicaragua ā€“ that is a mortal threat to the homeland. he has about as much depth as the sierra snowpack ā€¦

ā€œYesterday is over, and weā€™re never going back.ā€

One definition of ā€˜conservativeā€™: ā€œholding to traditional attitudes and values and cautious about change or innovation, typically in relation to politics or religion.ā€
i.e., things were good yesterday, so letā€™s not rock the boat, you libtards.

Methinks Rubio needs a new catchphrase, otherwise he is toast, from his own party.

Heā€™s right in one respect. I do look back. I look back to the Clinton years, when the rich paid something closer to their fair share, to times when we had budget surpluses, to the days when unemployment was consistently lower and bankers and fat cats couldnā€™t buy elections. Yeah, I look back at those times and wonder how we can get back to them. Butā€¦I also look forward. I look forward to a time when the GOP might actually present some ideas, when racism wonā€™t be the governing dynamic of the GOP, and when we can look at all people as worthy equals. I look forward to slimming the military budget because war isnā€™t perceived as our only (and best) option. I look forward to a time when all people can go to the doctor without exiting to the poor house or the cemetery. I look forward to a time when we take pride in educating all our young, and actively encouraging them to join society as full and functional members.

Mostly, right now, I look forward to the day when the GOP isnā€™t a bunch of racist, bigoted fools and actually contributes something positive to the public discussion of the problems we face. I may not be around to see that, but I sure do look forward to it anyway.

And before us now is the opportunity to author the greater chapter yet
in the amazing story of America. But we canā€™t do that by going back to
the leaders and ideas of the past.

Evidently, for Rubio, superlatives are such a 20th century thing, so for Republicans, the comparative will have to suffice.

ā€œFor almost all of human history, power and wealth belonged only to a select few,ā€ he said.

ā€˜And we, in the GOTP, are aiminā€™ to keep it that way.ā€™

It will be impossible for Rubio to square his rhetoric with his record. Todayā€™s so-called "conservativesā€™ are doing everything possible to pull America back to a time when women knew their place, African Americans were not considered full citizens, so on and so onā€¦ They are forcing us to re-litigate issues that were settled decades ago.

Rubio has no intention of leading America forward, but every intention of taking America backward. We know this because as a state lawmaker and as a US Senator, Rubioā€™s record, his votes and his comments are all well documented. And his dishonesty is duly noted as well.

For someone who is young in age, Rubio is utterly out of sync with his own generation.

Did anyone else notice him take a drink of water? LOL

Something tells me that none of those things are what Rubio has in mind.

Good rant - itā€™s even better if you imagine it in the voice of MLK.

All worthy goals that conservatives will fight tooth and nail.

Moving America forward? Seriously? The guy canā€™t even keep his own family history straight.

ā€œthe political dynasties of two top rivalsā€

Talking Points Memo a iberal web site? Maybe not.

Jeb Bush has a grandfather who was a Senator; a father who was a Congressman, Vice President and President; and a brother who was a Governor and a President. Thatā€™s three generations of power at the highest levels.

Hillary Clinton was married to a man who was President. Her parents did not have federal power, her siblings didnā€™t have federal power, no one in her husbandā€™s family had any power at all.

The Bush family is a dynasty. Clinton is a highly talented attorney, Senator and Secretary of State who sublimated her own incredible skills and ambition so her husband could be President. That she took eight (OK, 7.5) years as first lady and is still able to be a front runner for a major party nomination is amazing.

But she is no part of a dynasty, and itā€™d be real nice if she werenā€™t discussed in that way. At least in the progressive media.

It is so amusing to hear them try to claim these themes, when what they intend is exactly the opposite - to maintain the status quo at all costs.

doG, how I long for people to start paying attentionā€¦

Let me say this as a Latino. I have a better chance of getting hit by bus than Rubio being found appealing to Latino voters, especially when those voters hear how he cowardly gave in to the pressure from the right. And how heā€™s become ant-immigration reform.

That was a great speechā€¦

Iā€™m glad Rubio can agree with the likes of the bigots that brown people are the true threat to this nation.

Streatchesā€¦ long sigh that turns into a yawnā€¦ did I miss something?

nahā€¦ just pandering to the south florida citizens who are originally from those countries and have relocated there. i just cracked up at the inclusion of nicaragua ā€¦ hell, it hasnā€™t been identified as a national security threat since reagan.

Yeah, as a ā€œleftā€ site this place is pretty terrible.
